Fixed

  • Smilies! :)
  • (the ability to change avatar captions in the profile)

Features from C9v3 that are missing in C9v4 and should return

  • The ability to jump to a specific page in a forum or thread.
  • Sandbox images, both in the thread view and the posts themselves.
  • The spam button (Minh might not agree with this one :P )
  • Avatar captions
  • The "Microsoft employee" icon for users that are Microsoft employees
  • Email/Contact functionality for members.
  • Real quoting functionality (that post linking stuff you've got now is not a good substitute at all)
  • The ability to embed YouTube videos in posts.
  • The ability to browse the site on my mobile device (my device happens to be a Treo 750, but it doesn't matter, the V4 version of the site isn't mobile friendly)
  • The preview images on the front page (for older posts) are way to small. They used to be bigger in the old version.

New features that would be nice to have

  • A "jump to first unread post" link when opening a thread.
    • "First unread" sounds sorta clunky to me. How about "first new post"?
  • No Ajax load when first opening a thread page. Instead load the posts with the initial request and use Ajax only for paging.
  • Code formatting (supporting C#, VB.NET, HTML/XML, C++, JavaScript, SQL).
  • Ability to set the number of posts displayed per page.
  • Ability to track replies in addition to just posts you have created (maybe a different icon for threads you have replied in?)
  • Ability to automatically ignore riddle threads.
  • WM5/6 IE version
  • iPhone version (maybe using http://code.google.com/p/iui/)
  • Generic version for limited resolution devices
  • Preview functionality for Wiki edits.
    • Edit conflict functionality for wiki edits.
    • When saves are made page should refresh to latest version (dropping the version number in the URL)
  • Personal "TiVo" page that lists new posts, videos, screencasts and wiki articles with keywords or tags that a niner has specified are of interest to him/her.
  • User tagging (hook into http://msdnbookmarks.com perhaps?)
  • Ability to edit your post and change the "Reply to" option in case you forgot to change it to Root.
  • Ability to set playback speed in the silverlight video player. I often play videos at 1.4x speed in order to save time and still understand what's being said. Currently, the only way of doing that is by downloading the videos and playing them in media player. It'd be nice to be able to do that in the inline player.
  • Chapter support in the video player, allowing you to skip to predefined chapters in the video.
  • Some form of code formatting; at least the ability to use a monospaced font in code, but syntax highlighting would be really nice too.

Suggested UI changes

  • Wiki comments should be on a talk tab rather than on the wiki page itself. Given the UI for the comments they are more prominent than the wiki content.
  • get rid of its dst checkbox, can you make logic to have it automaticallychange based on chosen time zone.
  • The whole nickname/real name thing is confusing. I have no idea when the system shows somebody's nickname or when it is their real name.
  • Move pingpacks to a separate section, rather than between the posts. It's kind of annoying to weave through them or read a thread because people replied to it only to notice that it's just a bunch of pingbacks rather than real posts.

WOOH! WOOH!
Is it considered a "feature" if it existed in an older version?

It finds lightbulbs.

I've added a "Fixed" section, like in v4Bugs. Should we have this, or should we just delete requests for features that have returned/been added?
