Description

When I first saw the Halo 3 commercial, I thought that it was rendered (how else do you have still explosions?) And even while I had walked past the two Halo 3 dioramas setup in the Microsoft Company store many times, I just didn't put the two together. But as it turns out, the Halo 3 commercial was filmed from a 30'x40' miniature model of a Halo 3 battlefield.

Where are they now? Where are they going? Where is the section with Master Chief? All these questions and more are answered by Taylor Smith, who was involved with all the above.

Really?  It always struck me as a modeled diorama from the beginning.  The explosions looked like they were painted plastic or transparent colored molding.  Though I consent they may have been rendered in postproduction.  I still don't think the Chief looks right.  Something about the color of his armor and visor is off.

I thought it was rendered to look that way, but now I can't watch the commercial without seeing it as a little set with the painted wall in the background.

It's kind of like my cousin who refused to watch the extra stuff on the LOTRs DVDs because it would ruin the magic for him.

You're all crazy.  Smiley  I think it's really cool to see how it's put together.

I find this stuff fascinating. I'm a "watch the bonus disc first" kind of guy.

Same here TeddyB, I find it all such model making interesting also.

I have the skills to make such things myself, not to the calibre of this though. I just never get the chance. I used to be a model maker, it was my first proper job. Today I end up just buying other people's work from model shops.

Stan Winston's work is class, he is highly revered in the business.  I would love to have seen some pics of the full Battlefield model in it's entirity, that I imagine would have looked very cool.
