Channel 9: Who We Are Now

9 minutes, 40 seconds

Right click “Save as…”

Channel 9 has come a long way since it's debut in 2004. We have grown and matured, had great successes and a few stumbles, but our core principles have remained the same: to to move beyond the newsgroup, the blog, and the press release to talk with each other, human to human. In this video you will get to know some of the key players that make Channel 9 what it is today. Thanks for all of your support!

    Woot Woot ! REV9 has launched !

    Congrats to the complete team!

It's good to see the developpers we usually see in the oldschool C9 video's (at there desk), in a more of a production video and see them in the spotlight. Way to go guys !

  • awesome video

  • Just installed IE9 Beta, first page i opened was Channel 9 ... WOW! the new website has launched! Congratulations to the team!

  • CharlesCharles Welcome Change

Impressively fast and snappy! Great job, dev team!!! Smiley

    Hey Now,

Great Vid! Channel 9 is the best!

    Thx 4 the info,

  • you haven't matured yet, not by a long shot, for instance you need to send some of your video editors back to school, and how about give the user the option to use flash or even better html5 instead of silverlight (craplight), to watch the videos, not to mention the crappy video interface

I will expect the answer to be: "yes, sir, we will fix it now sir"

although it would be funny to read how you would try explain how a crappy video interface is "by design"

or how not letting the user choose between flash, html5, silverlight is a "good user experience"

    (freedom of choice)

meh, channel9 is still too much microsoft as in too much pr bs, too much talk about microsoft specific tech.

I would have liked channel9 to be neutral as in no hidden agendas or pr force feeding, etc. but it's microsoft so i guess it's like asking a politicians to tell the truth

btw why is channel 10 closing down ?

  • I keep coming back for, as Adam pointed out, authentic content.  Thanks for all the lunch-and-learns Smiley

  • mejamie Niner since 2004

great video - very slick - but still human.  nice work guys

PLEASE unblur the C9 guy ....(especially from the eyes up)  the white blur/shadow has to go - and he isnt crisp enough

*id say thats a pretty small request...?

*PS - i dont know if you noticed - but each time you edit a post - you get more and more spaces between every line of text.

And double space instead of 1 space on return is back too (like it was last version and you put it back to single space return)

  • mejamie Niner since 2004

*i know the shift enter thing...  but by leaving double as default you are asking for needlessly long threads (when people dont hit shift/enter

  • CharlesCharles Welcome Change

The comment-whitespacing bug was logged earlier today. It will get fixed!

  • @jamie: The C9 guy isn't blurred unless you're magnifying the webpage. While using raster graphics, this will always eventually be a problem, even if they used a copy that was 8 times the resolution that is resized with CSS. The alternative is using SVG or Silverlight, but neither one is available on all machines that will be visiting the site.

  • @Mr Crash: I know nothing about you except that reading your post just about gives me an ulcer. What do you get out of trolling people?

  • Allan LindqvistaL_ Kinect ftw

yay, comment posting works from ie9 Smiley

great work on the new c9 site, love the cideo as well, hope the new changes and the additional content is just addative though, i dont mind broader content, i just dont want less hardcore developer stuff Smiley

  • @natelawrence: wow, people will say anything to use the word trolling in a sentence.

It's called feedback ( i've never liked beating around the bush but perhaps i should have been a bit more political ) never the less, giving hard feedback usually gets more results then feedback in a politically correct form, sad but true Sad

    so here we are....

  • BasBas It finds lightbulbs.

I love how you complain about immaturity and then come up with something like 'craplight' in the very same sentence.

  • Great video guys and congrats on the new website. It feels much faster and the design is awesome.

  • perfection!

  • The new web site is great!!  Keep up the good work!

  • Great Channel 9. Ch9 is the place which re-ignite my passion with Microsoft. After starting to watch videos from early 2009, I began to feel like "WOW, these are the things I desire to see and hear. These are the people I want to work with. This is a place I want to work in."

  • Martin WildamMartin Wildam

Can't watch the video. It does not seem to recognize that I have the silverlight plugin installed...

  • Martin WildamMartin Wildam

And BTW: Why do I need Silverlight for a simple video? - Epic fail...

  • sticstic

New Channel 9 looks really nice, but...
It seems that /Media/Videos/feed/iPod is gone...Will that be a redirection issue and you are going to bring it back or I need to start coding? ;-)Cheers,

  • @Martin Wildam: What browser are you using that isn't detecting that Silverlight is installed?

I've only rarely seen this in Internet Explorer on one old PC and on that same computer Silverlight works in Opera, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

Requiring Silverlight to play a simple video is not any kind of a fail, much less epic. Silverlight is just as worthy of being installed as Java or Flash. Yes, an optional HTML5 video player would be nice if people are using a browser that is compatible, but Silverlight allows for a good pinnable player that serves the regular users of this site functionality that we've asked for.

If your computer has somehow mangled Silverlight or won't let you install it (if you're on a device like the iPad, etc.), just click on one of the media links to the right of the video.

  • Great video, folks.  I'm looking forward to seeing what 9 is becoming.  Smiley

  • Martin WildamMartin Wildam

@natelawrence: No, my computer is not "mangled" - I am using Firefox on Ubuntu 10.04.

  • Martin WildamMartin Wildam

For the case you are considering me as a troll: Although using Ubuntu on my machine I do give support for Windows as part of my job - so why shouldn't I be able to consume the material here...

  • Clint RutkasClint I'm a "developer"

@Martin Wildam: you can download the videos, the links are directly to the right of the video.

    Also you could install Moonlight.

  • @Clint: Have you actually seen the player run in Moonlight? As far as I know the latest stable release was Moonlight 2 which only provides Silverlight 2 compatibility, while Moonlight 3, which is still alpha quality, will only provide Silverlight 3 compatibility.

If the Channel9 video player is a Silverlight 4 app, Moonlight users may have problems running it.
