Description

April 1, 2005 -- Two of Microsoft's most talented marketers worked during their 20% time nights and weekends to come up with Neutrino, a new toolset that will enable marketers to develop .NET code (and decompile .NET code to PowerPoint). Hear more about this amazing toolset.

Sorry, this one will only be available for streaming.

In other news, we hear the W3C has banned DIV and Span tags, a couple of developers (Rory Blyth and Scott Hanselman) drink the TechED coolaid and Betsy Aoki gets the "GotDotNet Blues."

Tensor: sssssshhhhhh, wouldn't want the PR department to hear about that!

We were wondering how long it'd take for someone to notice, though.

Now, figure out the other two "secrets" in the video and you might win a prize. At least my undying respect. Smiley

Hint: one is a book and the other are the interviewees themselves. Hint: they aren't quite who they make themselves out to be.

After doing some research, it looks like Peter is the lead product manager in the "Platform Strategy and Partners Group" and Jamey works in Marketing somehow...

Any chance I'm close?? Tongue Out

So are you guys beta testing it? And is it going to be part of Office or Visual Studio's next release?

    Yes I know it's a joke

I'm really bad with faces but he kinda looks like this guy Dmitry Robsman (asp.net team) and Michael Kaplan (international tools)...

Yeah, Peter is SENIOR PRODUCT MANAGER and Jamey is PRODUCT MANAGER. Pretty much marketing guys, but Peter is our group's PR contact and deals with the press and is the guy I ask if I have a question about whether something will get me fired or not.

Cool, Jamey wasn't easy to find out though....
But thankfully he helped founding geezergamers
    There it says:

I assumed there would be more in there... Obviously the book meant somthing I just didnt "get" it Smiley

Great gag though - love the Neutrino UI Smiley

Personally I would not have spelt it out at the end - just leave it hanging. Maybe thats just my twisted sense of humour though.

We thought about it, but we've been in hoax trouble before. Thought it best to not push it.

Ahh, Hailstorm (.NET MyServices) was a major initiative that didn't ship (the book was for Hailstorm developers). So, it was a way to poke fun at ourselves.

How come there's no download link for this video? Smiley

    I love the "hyperbole engine"!

Oh and "if we could get to version 11 that would be the ultimate". Talking about Office2003 I assume?

Cause the download site was being reinstalled yesterday and I was on a flight to Silicon Valley and I just couldn't get it done in time. I might get it up tomorrow.

    Ahh, didn't think of that.

A quick trip to Google reveals all. Microsoft Brainwash contains: Carbonated water, fructose, citric acid, natural and artificial flavours, sodium benzoate, American ginseng, Siberian ginseng, Korean ginseng, (a lot of) caffeine, buchu, dillweed, jalapeno, African capsicum, ginger, yohimbe, ginko biloba, skullcap, mad dog weed, na huang, gotu kola, dong quai, super echinacea, golden seal, artificial coloring FD&C #40.

I wonder how that stuff tastes -- and how potent it is. Smiley

Don't forget to put the download link on the page. I want to download this video. It's so cool. I laughed a lot. You shouldn't have mentioned in the end that the video is not for real. You should have shown a running application.

It would have been even more fun Big Smile

No offense to the good people at Microsoft (Or to the occasional bad ones, as with any company), but if you guys are gonna be showing text on a video, you may want to look at a higher quality.  And where did the save link go?

Maybe you read the replies befor you post. Scoble said that he had some problems with the "Save" link and he will put one in the near future.

    Oh Yeah April 1st duh!

I've actually seen people do the framework to Powerpoint thing at a major UK financial institution. In that case they were trying to bridge the analyst to developer gap, but developers to marketers that's going too far Smiley

    Really?  Tell us about it!

As it was April 1st today, you wouldn't get in any trouble by not telling it at the end, it was pretty obvious anyway Wink

P.S. Where can I buy that MS Brainwash drink?
  • User profile image
    Pete

The bottle of brain wash has been around for a long time and I am not sure where it came from originally.  I got my bottle from our group admin during an office move - I am not sure where Jamey came by his.

Apparently people used to drink it, but it's looking a little cloudy right now and there is a purple ring around the neck of the bottle so I have no plans to indulge any time soon.

Everything you see on the screen was a ppt deck, by the way.  The 'visual studio' was a screen shot Charles sent me.  If you notice there is a tool tip on the screen the whole time. Smiley

I put the 'april fools' slide up becuase it made it easy to transition into the notice: no code was hurt one that followed...but a screenwriter I am not.

Glad you liked it, we had fun making it.
