Business Intelligence #02a: Developing a Query-Driven E-mail Delivery System

Sign in to queue

Description

This screencast shows how to use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Microsoft's ETL tool, to send conditional email alerts during a load.

This screencast is the first in a series BI Developer screencasts recorded as part of a workshop built on SQL Server 2005 that have been delivered around the globe by Microsoft and Microsoft Partners.  This training event takes the student through the Microsoft BI Platform giving a BI Developer the introduction and basic comfort needed to tackle a BI project using Microsoft technology.

If you missed the first screencast in this series I highly recommend that you watch it first as it provides a great overview of Microsoft BI technology.  Additional screencasts will be published under the "SQL+Server" tag so subscribe to it now!

This is an excellent SSIS demo. I am going to use the ideas  to create a billing notification system for clients of my website development business. I will use an SSIS package similar to the one shown in this demo together with SQL Server Agent to schedule package execution. I will automatically send emails letting my customers know when their payments are due, when their payments are late and when their accounts are suspended (hopefully we will never reach that point). Thanks for the demo! I can't wait to watch the rest of the series.

Thanks for the feedback.  That’s great to hear that this may directly influence your product!

SSIS can be a powerful tool and have uses beyond basic ETL.  If your product is something that you sell commercially you may want to update your Channel 9 profile with a link to your web site so other readers can see what you are building.

Enjoy the other screencasts and let us know what suggestions you have for improvement.

There is apparently an issue with the way these videos are encoded and Silverlight player...  You can watch these videos by clicking on the "Downloads" link then selecting "WMV".  I'll see what I can do to get this fixed.  Sorry for the inconvenience.
