Description

Just four months ago we unveiled 10 with a simple dream: create a place for people with both a passion for technology and also a desire to change the world.

Along the way we have covered a wide range of topics. Some ofthe content youloved and some didn't quite meet the mark. One consistent piece of feedback you gave us was that 10 lacked a purpose and the major side effect was that our content often was all over the map. As a team we took that to heart and wrote what the 10 Manifesto. This manifesto is a set of principles we'll use as a compass to help guide us forward.

The 10 Manifesto

  • One band of passionate digital citizens reaching out to enthusiasts around the globe.
  • Two-way communication that is based on mutual respect will lead to success.
  • Three degrees make up the interview: The medium, the subject, and the conversation.
  • Four corners of the world encompass millions of ideas and a shared global imagination.
  • Five by five is how we communicate; with maximum strength and clarity.
  • Six minutes of headlines and links isn’t enough. We want to create opinions, depth, and focus.
  • Seven days a week we hunt for discussions on seven continents. Work and life can be synthesized
  • Eight bits of media will grow into more than just bytes of data. They should inform and enthrall.
  • Nine plus Ten is much more than nineteen. Together we can teach, listen, and learn together.

10 is all of these things, but most important it is what our users make it. Listen to everyone.

These principles were what we used to guide every step of this release and it will be how we measure our content moving forward. We hope that we've made the site easier to use and that our new forums will allow you to connect with your peers from across the globe and discuss a wide variety of subjects.

Thank you for being a part of the launch of 10, we're looking forward to your feedback as we begin this journey together.

Your team has excelled themselves over this release. The whole layout and colour scheme seems more natural.

Now you have finished up here for while, time to move over full time to C9, eh?

Correct.  We still have a few cleanup items, but for the most part, C9 here we come!  Big Smile

I really hate the AJAX comments. Why? Cause I have to keep clicking on them to see another tree. I want to permanently see all comments. Is there a setting somewhere where I can just show all comments so I don't need to keep clicking to see more comments?

Yes, the default behavior is to open all on the same level, but an option to open all well be in the next patch.

Thanks for stopping by, Robert Smiley

Cool. I hated that I needed to click to see your reply! But, looking very cool otherwise! You guys are up late.

Took a second or two for my brain to comprehend what I was seeing but once the nuerolag ceased I was a happy camper. Great job.

Awesome re-design Jeff and Team - I love it. Its good to see forums too! Can't waiit to see all the discussions that are generated there!

Yes, this was weird for me too.  If they expanded on mouse over it would be easier, but I do like the idea of having some control over expanding/contracting.

I have to say I love this page and can't wait to look at the rest.  My attention wained from on10 (I may have to resubscribe after doing some brutal subscription pruning lately).

It is startling ot have everything go gray and have this comment form show up partly obscured (because I had scrolled down the page to read the comments).  Let's see how well I do at posting.  Heh.

    Thanks for the feedback!

The refresh button is broken at the moment as is the read/unread status flipper.  Once it's working properly it acts as a way to see things you haven't read yet, but also mark things as unread if you weren't done with it and want to come back later.  You can think of it like how your inbox works with marking e-mails as read or unread.  Same idea, but for forums posts.

That sounds like a good idea ... read / unread for conversations. But something is not right.

I get an alertbox when I click the book icon now with some strange error message (could not locate 'unreadCount4015').

Also ... I don't really know if people will understand how to use this. Clicking a book icon does not really indicate what this actually does. And there is no tooltip when I hover over which explains what this does.

The coment counters also seem to be a little strange. A minute ago I got 14 comments, -6 unread.

I am sorry to be posting these comments here on the open forum, but there is no feedback/contact form to fill in.

There are some good things too about the site Smiley

    - Content is good (for non-tech people).
    - The new logo is awesome !
    - The new video player actually works in Firefox (although pretty slow). Seems it has to load the whole video before it starts playing.

    Some more tips for fixes:
    - Breadcrum trail seems a little off in my Firefox
    - There is a lot of wasted space in the 2 right columns, both on the front page and on the subpages.

That's it for now ... back to work :o

One more thing ... when I just added a comment, the total comment count for the post was not updated, still stands at 14.

And please ... PLEASE ... put an "expand all" button somewhere for the comments !

I feel all warm and fuzzy knowing that I was there for the launch of On10, and have seen it progress to this.

Awesome job, to the entire staff.

Nice work on the site update!  The new layout has a lot more to offer and is easily navigated.  There are a few issues here and there that have been mentioned, but once tweaked the 10 site should be very accessible for the community!  The design team did an amazing job of moving from the earlier versions of the site to the version 1.0 release - way to go!

Yes, we're still tweaking and fixing bugs.  We're really glad you can navigate things better and are enjoying the new site.  Isn't it fun to just keep on clicking related tags and being able to find all our content?  Wink

I'm absent for a few days and the whole place changes!  This is nice, but a bit too spiffy for my tastes.  Maxwell's logo looks good up there, but I miss the classic "10".  All those T-shirts you guys made are now out of style.

I was amidst all the other South Central Jersey residents who were dealt a heavy blow by the thunderstorms on Tuesday.  No power for a few hours and the cable (TV and internet) was just restored today.  Fortunately, no one here was hurt...only inconvenienced.  I can live without lights and television for awhile, but I despise being restrained from the web for more than a day.  I always miss the latest developments.  Here for example, new segments are usually posted every other day, but when I'm away, you post new segments everyday like clockwork! Though the look and feel isnt a drastic improvement-- like playing CS:Source for the first time and the whole time all you do is look around and shoot random objects-- I like the way you add a reply. It's nice.

One small thing that I've noticed is that on firefox the search arrow is slightly mis-aligned with the search box.

Anyone seeing the same thing, or is it just me?

It's not just you.  We know about it and will get it fixed when we're back from a small break.  Thanks!  Smiley

Now wait just a minute!  Your "didn't quite meet the mark" link takes you to the energy drink taste test.  That's one of the best episodes!  It was interesting and funny and hard to stop watching.  What more could you ask for?  Give us more like that!

I'm gonna start a mail-in campaign or somethign....
