Description

So you all know Duncan Mackenzie right?  He's one of our Devs here for Channel 10 and he is also an avid gamer.  I've had my head blown off quite a few times by him in Halo.  Not pretty.  And he's the author of the book Xbox 360 for Dummies.  Duncan also writes articles for Xbox.com on Xbox dads.  Answering questions like "Should I allow my four year old daughter to play Postal"?  He is a Dad himself and takes pride in the fact he actually plays games with his kids.  He sits down with Channel 10 and gives all you Dads some tips on gaming with your kids and hands out a few recommendations on game titles. Happy Father's Day!

Happy daddy day, dads. My father's own gaming experience consisted of him hopping in one spot as Blanka in Street Fighter 2 on the SNES Smiley So, it's Duncan's son who's playing Lego Star Wars. I see Duncan's gamertag playing it a lot. Good video.

Can the Channel10 team fix the codec used with WMV (high)? It's using the videocodec WMV v7 which is not very high quality.

Hey, great segment!  Duncan hasn't been on in a while - he looks great.

I've read some of his blog posts and articles for Xbox dads. It's great that he spends the time to check the games and play them with his son.  Then he actually uses that experience to recommend games for other dads.  Awesome.

Sadly, there aren't too many Xbox games that parents can play with their kids.  "Lego Star Wars" is really an exception.  Few games really stress cooperation and support the drop-in drop-out design.  Most of the games in the Xbox library are geared toward mature gamers, so it limits the options. Fortunately, there are always Nintendo and Sony titles like "Mario Kart" or "We love Katamari".

I owe so much of my love for gaming to my father.  Who set up all my videogames consoles and taught me how to beat "Super Mario Bros." when I was too young to do it for myself?  My dad!!!  My love for aviation and flight simulator are all because of my father.  Unfortunately, he's never been a console gamer.  Apart from his modest collection of PC games including Flightsim, Quake, and Card Games; he never got into consoles.  He could beat "Super Mario Bros." in record time back on the NES, but that's as far as he ever went.

This was a fantastic video and very appropriate.  It's great to see you on camera, Tina.  I was worried you were going to disappear for the rest of the summer given the circumstances.  Thanks for sticking to it and not disappointing.

    Happy Father's Day, everyone!

Absolutely!  Viva Pinata is great fun for kids and adults alike.  There are a lot of titles I didn't mention for sake of keeping my post a reasonable length.  I was also trying to focus on multiplayer cooperative family titles. Smiley

Hey man... I read through your whole comment... and you make some good points that I could probably talk at length (yes, there are a lack of family games on the Xbox compared to Nintendo, but there are enough that Connor and I could be playing some form of new family game every week... in fact, I try to keep us away from the new games because it is easier to control his Xbox time if the games have lost some of their 'new game' excitement).... but I really wanted to reply to just one thing...

    "he looks great"

    Thanks, much appreciated Smiley

There haven't been that many changes to the high bandwidth profiles for WMV since version 7 was released. Most the advancements in the codecs were for low bandwidth compression, that which is at or below 500kbps. In fact I'd say you would be hard pushed to 'see' any difference at all.
