Eric Hanson is a Principal Program Manager in the Big Data team in SQL Server. He's currently working on data warehouse/Hadoop integration and data warehouse programmability. He helped start the "Apollo" columnstore index project for SQL Server in 2008. Prior to coming to Microsoft in 2002, he was a computer science professor specializing in database systems at the University of Florida for 10 years, and founded a database alerting software company. He received his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley in computer science, specializing in database management systems, in 1987, and his BS in computer science from Cornell in 1983. He served as a US Air Force officer from 1987-1991.
