Business Process Management, or BPM, is a great vision, but it has yet to reach mainstream adoption. Microsoft's view is about achieving the BPM vision pragmatically through discrete routes of adoption, focus on the end user, collaborative process modeling, Microsoft's business process platform and the Microsoft's Business Process Alliance (BPA), a strategic partner ecosystem targeting the Microsoft business process platform. Microsoft's people-ready approach empowers organizations to rapidly build adaptive, mission-critical business process management solutions spanning people, systems and organizations. BPM requires seamless support for different types of processes that span different technologies and business areas (from structured, transactional, and predictable system processes to unstructured, long running, and ad-hoc human processes) for a comprehensive, end-to-end process view. We point out how these different process categories can be addressed with the appropriate approach, industry standards and technologies in one integrated architecture. This architecture combines Visio, InfoPath, SharePoint and BizTalk Server 2006 R2, and partner products to provide a powerful process management solution. We also provide useful guidance to help customers tackle Business Process Management initiatives and avoid blockers to adoption
