Description

Once upon a time, Microsoft had a "if we build it, someone else will back it up" mentality. Today, Windows' built-in backup solution continues to evolve, Microsoft System Center 2012 is shipping the fourth generation of Data Protection Manager, and the workloads have never had so many resiliency and recovery methods as they now do. In this session we first examine the industry needs and top customer requests for data protection, based on ESG research. Then we look at various technologies from Microsoft to consider how these challenges are being met (or not). Along the way, we look at how VSS works within Windows, and how that is manifested in new capabilities within the built-in backup functions of Windows 8 as well as Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2012. We also look at where "backup" still fits (or doesn’t) compared with the resiliency solutions available within the workloads as well as storage infrastructure. The session finishes by looking at how "clouds" may change your backup strategy—as both the source of your backups, or as their repository. #TEMGT323
