Organisation systems frequently grow organically and controlling this growth is a tricky task. However, we are doing exactly this at ING New Zealand, enabled by the Microsoft stack. We will describe how we approached the problem by developing a capability view of the organisation and the desired core functionality of business systems, defining a cost effective and functional technology stack for the desired state, and developing a roadmap that guides the organisation towards the desired state, shrinking legacy systems to their core functionality to allow for eventual replacement.
