Play Optimizing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Applications Using Table Valued Parameters, XML, and MERGE
Download this episode
This session covers passing sets of data from a client application to a SQL Server 2008 instance. There are several solutions to this task, including the use of the SQL Server 2008 feature Table Valued Parameters (TVPs). In this session we describe as well as compare multiple approaches to passing sets of data to SQL Server, such as calling a stored procedure repeatedly, passing the set as XML and passing the set using a TVP. We also cover combining each solution with the new MERGE statement. A discussion on pros and cons of each approach as well as a look at end-to-end demos on each implementation is a promise!
