With the explosion of media, Web, and social computing, there has been significant need for efficient storage, management, and performant access to unstructured data in an enterprise environment. Most of these contents reside as files in Fileservers today. Relational databases have been traditionally weak in handling unstructured data in an efficient manner. SQL Server has invested significantly in making it easy to store, manage such unstructured data by combining the power of the file system capabilities with traditional relational management. In this session we explore the SQL server FILESTREAM and Remote BLOB storage technologies in depth and discuss how they together provide an end-to-end solution for managing unstructured data in an enterprise environment.
