    I just checked my e-mail and I got a mail from Google this afternoon.  Seems they are kinda ticked that I have an MSN Search box on my blogspot page and they are asking that I remove it.  They say its a violation of their Terms of Service yet nowhere in their terms of service does it say its not permitted for me to do such.  Looks like another thing to handle in the morning.

    EDIT:  They say its obstructing their services.

    That's evil.

    How?  I just read their TOS and the way I understand it, it doesn't say anything about putting search boxes on Blogspot.  You're not modifying their search bar or anything, so you should be fine.

    [edit] and yes, Google is evil.  I think that any company whose motto is "Do no evil," even if they meant it at first, will eventually end up evil.  That just seems to be the way these things work.

    So, expect a change in their ToS soon?

    Hmmm.... how attached are you to your blogspot?  I'd be curious to see what they would do if you ignored the email.

    Hahaha. Seriously though, do blog about it and about how there is no mention of this being against the terms of service. Don't comply... see what happens Smiley

    st because you've broken the site layout. The box is about 100px too wide. It looks crappy (don't take it personal, the site looks really nice!) and might have some technical ramifications.
    Do they have something like an EULA for using blogger? Blogger belongs to Google, so maybe it'S in there somewhere prohibiting you from using competitor's products...

    He's using a slightly modified pre-packaged template that comes with Blogger.

    I think the ToS kinda implies that you're not allowed to put negative content about Google on your page.

    Its nothing negative to put an MSN searchbox on your blog. I think they have to come up with something better for this Tongue Out

    Wow. Can you imagine the (I need to watch my language) storm if ms did this to google? Are they afraid of competition?

    I cant post to my blog now.  I get this everytime I try to post now.  But yeah, if Microsoft had tried this they would be in a crap storm right now.

    Are they complaining about the search boxes for a technical reason or because it is "Microsoft related"? It appears you have two search boxes on your blog.  The first one, on the right hand side, breaks the layout and bumps the whole right sidebar section down the screen (how that is an obstruction of services is beyond me).  Easy fix:

    <form method="get" action="http://search.msn.com/results.aspx">
    <input type="hidden" name="cp" value="1252"/>
    <input type="hidden" name="FORM" value="FREEWS"/>
    <table bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
    <tr>
    <td>
    <a href="
    http://search.msn.com/">
    <img src="
    http://search.msn.com/s/affillogo.gif" border="0" alt="MSN Search"/>
    </a>
    </td>
    <td>
    <input type="text" name="q" size="30"/>  <--make 20
    <input type="submit" value="Search Web"/>
    </td> </tr> </table>
    </form>

    Or are they complaining about the search bar at the bottom of your page? Then I would ask...why would you need two search bars? Just keep the one on the side.  Or are they running ads across the bottom?

    Edit: Ask them some more questions before going off on a rant. Don't let them just say "er, um, it's a TOS violation"...make them explain themseves and point out exactly what their problem is.
