Strange names appear to be on many a technical related brand, its geek-think at its best!
Forgot to give an example, take Google, Bing and Digg for instance, and there are much more wacky ones. Modern brands seem to go for the Zany and in your face names, is this because there are no more generic business names available, or just because of the day and age we live in? Who knows!
@AfricanSafari: I've always thought that the availability of domain names is a big factor here; think of a new company name and then see if the domain name is available and you'll often find it isn't because some cyber-squatter registered it on the off-chance that they could sell it to someone for an inflated price.
