Additionally, in a blow to search engine leader Google, Linspire will make Microsoft's Live.com search engine the default Linspire 5.0 Web search engine, "allowing Microsoft to bring Live Search to a broader set of users and providing leading search capabilities to Linspire customers," Linspire officials said in a statement

Yeah and the sad part is most of those things are already available.

Fluendo offers licensed Windows Media and may others as well and the Liberation and FreeType fonts take care of any lack of TrueType.

All this deal has done is sign Linspire's death warrent as a Linux vendor. Whether or not patent covenent deals are good for free software, the GPLv3 prohibits any of it.

If Linspire cannot embrace the GPLv3 they wont embrace Linux because the GNU part of it will become GPLv3/LGPLv3. Linspire better start searching for a different platform, like BSD, OpenSolaris, or something other and make be sure to leave all the GPLv3 stuff to third party software sources.

I think if Linux companies are going to do patent deals, they should just STFU and not release any public annoucement. Hint... Hint. The FSF cannot do anything if they dont know about it.
