A fun little project...

I am working in my spare on a fun little project and thought I'd share
it with you guys. Perhaps to get feedback, maybe to generate some
    community interest ...

The above is a screen shot of my project titled "Mushroom Game
Designer". It is a program I'm writing which currently allows
people to create 2D platform game levels using a "paint" type user
interface. Levels can have backgrounds, foregrounds, any a limited
number of sprite layers the game player can interact with.

The program uses OpenGL to draw in the main window and already handles a variety of real time 2D (and 3D) effects.

I plan on adding to the program over time, and eventually would like
to make it a full 2D platform game design engine capable of both
editing and playing user created games.

Thanks for your time and I appreciate your feedback,
    Anthony

It looks neat. There's a similar program called Gamemaker that I've been toying with recently, building an Atomic Bomberman clone.

It would be interesting to see XNA (or something built on it) go in this direction (higher level game building toolkits). Save people from all lthe low level engine drudgery (unless you're into that of course) and let them work on the game itself.

Looks very nice Smiley Would this be open source or a commercial thing?

It will probably be a community beta requiring registration, and then released as donate/nag ware for the cheap.

A nice little project. I like it Smiley

Do you allow to add high definition sprites to? Or are there any limitations? In what language did you build it - on which framework (looks like JAVA - is it?)?

Sprites can be high resolution and support is there 8 bits  per pixel alpha transparency. At this point I am a "classic" style GPL sprite library. When I get the time, or find a better sprite library I'll add it to the project.

As far as the framework goes, it's a based on my custom control library. You can find an older, but public, version of it is here.
