If you know of any way to run IE6 natively on Windows, go right ahead. That's the only way I know how. No need to attack me for trying to help.
I think he mistook your honest advice as an unsolicited "Windows sucks, Ubuntu great, get Linux!" troll thread. It's a "boy who cried wolf" kind of thing.
On the other hand I think that the VM solution is probably better, since you'll be running it in a way that's guarranteed to be the same, whereas Wine might distort some of the rendering engine perhaps. It's nice to be sure with these type of things.
