    • Microsoft has signed an agreement to acquire all the outstanding shares and assets of DATAllegro.

    2. When will the transaction be complete?

    • We are unable to say for sure, but we expect it to be completed in late August, 2008.

Data warehousing appliance. Their current product appears to run on an Ingres DB on Linux.

Of course they'll port the product to work on SQL Server exclusivly and lock-out access to other DBMS, then the product will dwindle in popularity before surging back up again (despite a potentially reduced feature set and higher prices) thanks to agressive marketing.

Then Microsoft will buy 3 other products just like it and combine them together into a suite no-one really understands *cough* Dynamics

To get the Cloud working at it's best Microsoft needs to reach out, this is a great move.
