I can understand Jamie's concerns, though, especially because Live Movie Maker in its current state is almost completely useless.

Yeah. The new version of Movie Maker is pretty bad. I don't understand why they removed the customization of the output... Why did they limit the outputs to only two profiles. I don't understand that. It's like a crippled version of the original Movie Maker.

@Jamie: don't get mad. Bundling it with Live allows to update (means: adding new features) the applications more frequently. More frequently means that the thing gets also updates (means: new features) withouth the need of releasing a new version of Windows.

Error symbol The Windows Live Network is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons:

ps - i dont want to use a movie editor online EVER

    *&%&^&^$&^* ever
This is a complete other problem... has nothing to do with MSFT moving Movie Maker from Windows to Live.

Jamie get over yourself. You are not Microsoft's only customer. You're not special either. M'kay? Windows is not developed just for you.

Heck movie maker has been part of Live for well over a year.
I'm fairly confident that the general consensus is that Live Movie Maker is terrible, m'kay.

It is NON FEATURE COMPLETE BETA SOFTWARE, you cannot judge what the final release will be like. It is not meant to be final. If you don't like it use Windows Movie Maker or some other software. Ok?

Sorry for the shouting, but I fear the message may have got lost otherwise.

    i never complained about bundling

    i complain about BUNGLING!!

i complain about removal on upgrade of paid for app!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (ok i didnt pay)   ..so?

    * if i have MM in vista and upgrade... who here really believes it is MS's right - to REMOVE that app - and make me download a new one?
Hummm... I am not trying to be pain in the *, but wouldn't you get a hint when they said, Windows Live "Essentials". Wouldn't you wonder why Windows Live has photo gallery and mail to begin with? Especially on Vista, I would expect anyone to ask the same question when they install Windows Live Photo Gallery and Mail on their Vista machine.

Anyway, why they do that? I am not MS, but I am fairly confident that is MS's solution for never ending EU law suits. You should complaint to evil EU if you ask me.

BTW, check LiveSide.net so you won't be frustrated for anything releaved to Live services.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

ps -so you think you are a web service? saas?  well your NOT.

you cant have it both ways if you are charging 500$ for your product (lame bullcrap broken product needing "paint"

NOW PUT BACK MM and make Photostory WORK

    ...sales guy goofs.... mumble mumble.....
Jamie, just go to a Vista computer running Home Premium or Ultimate and copy that program folder for Movie Maker over to the Win7 machine, it should work. If it doesn't it'll complain about 1-2 missing DLLs, copy those aswell, and you have it back (for now).

    Photostory is there: http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/9/4/494ab2a4-1427-4abc-9e75-472f7f2c146b/PStory.msi

You should use Sony Vegas instead of Movie Maker imo, much better software. I'm not saying it's cool the MS removes products (which they technically didn't w/ Movie Maker, but have on a few other things), but I never thought movie maker was all that good anyway. Just my two cents.

For now you can just install Movie Maker 2.6:

    Oh... Interesting!
The key sentence in the article that people somehow still ignore:

With Windows Live Movie Maker, we started by building the 20%, and we're working really hard to add the other 80 percent now. (Trust me, we're good at adding the more complicated bits.)

20% referring to the simple, 5-minute, two button click scenarios.

You know, that's cool and all, but movie maker is part of Live Essentials, and the Live Essentials suite is finished and released. It's not altogether strange that people expect all software in such a final release to be actual finished software. If Movie Maker isn't done, they should've left it out of Live Essentials and just offered it as a separate beta.

On the download page Movie Maker is clearly marked as a beta. But yes, it is confusing bundling it with non-beta software (although really, is Messanger ever not beta?)

Yeah, I know it's marked as a beta, but really, what does that mean to normal people? Hell, I find that it's been ripped of all meaning for people like us too.

But yeah, it's the bundling with Live Essentials that bugs me.

I was about to complain about how they could even consider this a beta when it's missing a major piece of functionality from the previous version; importing Digital Video. Then I discovered that you actually use Windows Live Photo Gallery to do the DV import. Photo Gallery. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
