Reuters: Microsoft unviels new logo
For over 25 years Microsoft has had many Wordmarks, but never a logo. One only needs to look to the brand value of Apples bitten apple brand to see what not having a brand/meme can end up costing a large scale corporation.
While it is true that the Windows flag and Office Puzzle brands have somewhat surficed over the years - today Microsoft unvieled it's first corporate logo in it's history - and so far the change has been a welcome one.
"We wanted the logo to be friendly and also developer centric" said Steve Ballmer. "I have to admit - I was hard pressed to veto the new tagline".
That new tagline is "Better" - and another "Developers, developers, developers." a line the CEO himself coined.
"We have always been about the developer ecosystem" he said. "And channel 9 has been so successful - we decided to look there first when aproaching the company wide branding"
While it is true Microsoft has had it's ups and downs in the realm of design, a field Apple has always "Excel"ed at - Ballmer takes the new identity in stride:
"We're ready to roll baby!" Now! Now! Now!" he exclaims gleefully.
Windows 7 and the new branding seems to be working too: Over 80% of people in our test survey prefered the new look.
One developer - who asked not to be named said of the change: " Look - the American people voted for change - yes we can!"
In other news - Microsoft shares fell today to there lowest level since 1985.
"Apparently making investors happy, at the expence of our customers wasnt working" Ballmer said. "but theyll come around."
