Does Visual Studio 2005 support aliases?

In Visual SlickEdit, I can set up an alias file which contains a list of name/value pairs.  When I type the name into an open file and then, hit ctrl+space, the name is replaced with the value.  If the value contains replaceable parameters, Visual SlickEdit will display a dialog that prompts you for the value of these parameters before doing the text replacement.

Does Visual Studio 2005 support something similar?

    Yes, it has Code Snippets.

Unfortunately, code snippets only work for C#, VB, VJ# and XML files.  I was hoping to find something that works in any type of file.

Something like this would be so trivial to code in either a macro or a plugin that I'm not really sure it matters.
