MISSION: Travel back in time: Black and white, horses and buggies, country, simplify

    WEAPONS
    - Canon rebel xt SLR
    - Sigma 300mm auto zoom lens
    - Canon 55mm and 80mm lens
    - Dell laptop / burner / car cigarette lighter AC outlet
    - Windows XP / photoshop / photostory 3 / WMP
    - Minivan

    TARGET
    - Mennonites in South Eastern Ontario
    - Farmland – “the simple life”

OBJECTIVE:  Try to bring back images

    OUTCOME:

    <Denis Hopper>

     SELL THE HOUSE
     SELL THE CAR
     SELL THE KIDS
     FIND SOMEONE ELSE
     FORGET IT
     I'M NEVER COMING BACK
     FORGET IT

    </Denis Hopper>

Haha my wifes mother lives in Elmira ON so we were up there – sometimes my imagination gets the better of me. – but have you ever just wanted to… to… UNPLUG?

We drove around farm country all afternoon and took these pics of farms and the locals (Mennonites)  – I wanted to leave the van and get a buggy!  There’s probably about 20 good pics in all of these – but it really does take you away. Sometimes technology makes you forget the simple things – till you use it to go find it.

For Minh and geoffc and other photo fanatics Smiley

Other misc shots - in southern Ontario:

    Disclaimers:

    - MANY shots taken from moving vehicle
    - MANY shots taken at maximum zoom – some without tripod (shaky)
(ie; from road far away …”hey can I come to your party and take shots!?”
    - Anything with “photo-effects” means was bad anyway
    - ALL pics included – NO editing done to timeline
( as the best point of photostory is letting it accidentally make stuff cool)

    - All pics taken in last 2 days on planet earth. Time travel void where prohibited 2005

anyway it was fun pretending... monday's tommorow - back to the future .. back to work.. ;P

I have a cross-country photo shoot in me somewhere. BTW, I really dig the tunes. I'm gonna put together a photo story of my current stuff for sure. Great idea.

..and make it of quebec.. that looks as much like ontario as win looks like linux ..err wait a minute..

Jamie, thanks for this. It's interesting how using B&W somehow triggers other emotions - e.g. a sense of being back in time - and enriches the photos' impact.

Glad you're enjoying the Rebel XT. I'm still learning about my Rebel - most of the time I stick with the "easy" functions - I very rarely use the "creative" modes yet, but I'll get there. Some examples are over at my space on Flickr, such as this http://photos13.flickr.com/17833900_f8763414dc_b.jpg

    Other stuff via http://www.flickr.com/photos/gcoupe/

    Cheers.

    Nice, Jamie.

I was thinking with the Mennonite wmv that Moxy Früvous's "River Valley" might be an interesting background song. But I like yours as well.

We have Mennonites and Amish over here as well (Pennsylvania). Might be worth a trip for you at some point. It's so Puritan in Lancaster Co., towns like "Intercourse", "Bareville", "Bird-in-Hand", "Mount Joy", etc..

Again, nice work. Thanks a bunch for sharing with us.

Somewhat orthogonal post:  Anyone from up north heard anything about Moxy in the last few years?  Last I knew they took a "break" and then just fell off the map entirely.  I've seen them 3 or 4 times live and it would be great if they'd tour again.

Nope. Jian and Dave have done solo tours. I'd love to see them again as well. Any group who can do a modern protest song a capella is ok in my book. Smiley

Nice! - ps - ive never used the "real" modes either

took me a while to learn - red dot to red dot on the lens's!

anyway - ive added 28 best to jgrant.com (just pics - no video this time)
    http://www.jgrant.com/blog2/upload/uploadfolder/thumbs/PhotoAlbum.asp?Page=1&ShowSub=eastern-ontario

some of the best ones were on hazy days - muted colours..

my initial reaction was - hue them out and add contrast - but now i think they work better faded/plain... as taken ?

PPS: xp supports RAW now - (Canon .CS2 and more) - although through 47 meg download! - its on scoble's site today

i think there is ONE good one and 3 ok ones

but then theres the actual "account" of what your filming  (ie; blurred or not - content)
on that there was quite a few- hense using photostory - to make it less a chore to view them all

** to on the fence c9er's

if you havent tried it... its too easy

    - open Pstory 3 - select any cool images you have - say next - next - add music ( after first song BE CAREFUL to click timeline as it is stupid and erases first song choice) *duh

click finish ( select custom output if you want higher quality than 640)

upload somewhere and post it Smiley

Hmmm the first song must be "The Lilac Time - Return to Yesterday", if I'm not wrong.

You can get Photo Story 3 here. It's one of those "genuine windows advantage" apps.
