"This was our main demo for IL2JS; a complete (albeit simple) 3D graphics engine generating thousands and thousands of DIVs." - Erik

That picture certainly peaked my curiosity ... Brian and Erik were working on this together with Jeff Lau.

Not sure what Anders will be talking about, perhaps Tesla if both Erik and he are involved?  Pure speculation.

Err.... so Erik want to kill WebGL ?? Devil Just kidding.

Personally I hope Anders will release that QBASIC for Roslyn project, that'll be FUN for me. Big Smile Big Smile

OK, jokes aside, speculation goes on Devil, now maybe we should watch this panel of Lang.NEXT again.

As quoted by Darryl K. Taft

However, Hejlsberg added; "Java used to be cross-platform but is no longer cross-platform; the new cross-platform language in town is JavaScript."

Goaded by Meijer as to whether it is possible to write big programs in JavaScript, Hejlsberg replied, "Yes, you can, but you can't maintain them," much to the delight of the crowd that featured several prominent language and tools designers. "I think there are some unmet needs there," Hejlsberg added.

So will Anders meet the needs here ? or have Erik solved the deep philosophical questions ? Tongue Out

It's either that, or we might see the first traces of .NET 5, that'll be totally unexpected though.

Tesla had a plan for 5 years, in 2007, lets see whats in the store this time.

But after all these speculations, I really want to see DevDiv finished the Win8 wave and continue with their own adventures for projects survived the Sinofsky reset. Devil Devil

Exactly what I look forward to.   Lots of developers all up in fear about Win 8 but cooler heads prevail and move technology forward again and not backwards.

Depends what you mean by platform.   Lots of platforms in this world.

Eh, turns out, Erik will be doing a Haskell training there, nothing fancy.

Now we have no idea about Anders' annoucement again. 40 days to go. Perplexed

on the plus side, there is more hope for QBASIC for Roslyn now Big Smile

Argh, I just read the biography on the speaker page again.

Anders Hejlsberg is a Technical Fellow in the Developer Division at Microsoft Corporation and works on Microsoft's .NET and JavaScript development tools. He is the chief designer of the C# programming language and a key participant in the development of the .NET Framework.

Where does this 'JavaScript' come from ?? this sentence used to be

Thats dissappointing that a guy with his accomplishments would have to lower himself to Javascript improvements.   I thought more highly of him than that.   I guess he is pulling the corporate tow line so he can collect a paycheck but I just did not think he was a sellout.    I guess I am wrong.

"A sellout"?  Perplexed  Why, for working on tools shared across languages ... sheesh.  That's what .NET was always about - having many languages, so anyway you can tie the runtimes together via tooling and what not, the better.

@Richard.Hein: Well at last years Build he was not too kind on what his opinion was of Javascript and he even held back a few words.    So yeah,  now if he is working on Javascript improvements he is going against what he really thinks about it.   Corporate Sellout.   Thats not a bad thing since we all have bills to pay.   I just hope like felix9 is indicating that he can get back on real improvements to development.

Also,  I dont think the languages thing was really more than a marketing ploy.   Microsoft needed to compete with Java and C# would have sufficed but they heard a loud cry from the VB guys.  C# was not a stretch for C/C++ or Java guys but was a big leap for VB and that is how Microsoft pleased everyone.  Javascript, on the other hand, was invented to get some functionality in browsers which started out as text viewers.  I still would have preferred the silverlight route and they could have won if they beat out apple and google on the phone platform.

I think at this stage someone of Anders calibre can do pretty much whatever he likes.

He would have to screw up pretty badly to take the sheen off his past accomplishments would he not?
