Anyone installed W8 CP on their build tablet yet?

We're still downloading it at the office here, and the three of us who have them are planning on putting it onto our build tablets (along with a couple of other machines).

Anyone else put Windows 8 onto their build tablets yet? Wondering if there's any gotchas/missing drivers etc? Most importantly, will the 3G still work afterwards - I'm guessing all will be well, just wondered if anyone has gone or is going through it yet, or will we be the guinea pigs?!

    We'll keep you updated...

@OrigamiCar: This could be tricky given the need for an updated BIOS from Samsung, which you can't install from W8 DP... At least, this is my experience (I installed W8CP on a S7 tablet and had to install W7 first to install the latest Series 7 Tablet BIOS from the Samsung website...).

@Charles: Really? Well, I guess I'll find out soon! Thanks for the heads up.

Is Microsoft/Channel 9 going to come up with a how to or anything specifically for upgrading the Build tablet. Bearing in mind they handed out thousands of them, they must know that quite a few of us are going to want to upgrade the thing to CP version! Big Smile

Well I decided just to try it out and it all installed quite smoothly.  I havn't checked all the functionality yet but there didn't seem to be anything untoward.

I used the Win7 USB Boot Tool to create a bootable USB from the ISO but for some reason I couldn't get it to boot (up arrow + power on switch on should do this?) So I just hit setup from within the developer preview and opted for a clean install.

I am not averse to doing a complete fresh 'proper' install should it be required but as I say, so far so good.

(I am currently installing Visual Studio 11 Express onto the Build Tablet)

I will let you know how I get on.

@OrigamiCar: Well, seems Ian was able to do it. That said, I'd encourage you to get the latest S7 BIOS and I don't see how you can do that from W8DP...

Not a bad idea. I'd imagine the Windows folks have already done this. Have you checked out the officially sanctioned information? Start here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/faq

@OrigamiCar: Ignore me! Smiley You have BUILD devices, so you should be fine. My apologies for the confusion. I was talking about S7 consumer devices.

    You'll be fine!!

VS2011 express install went fine, built a couple of the sample projects and they ran fine so looking good!  (Sadly I don't  have access to the store for development)

I did install  on a Slate7 without a BIOS update but I'm not sure which version I have. I just got my Slate7 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately I have some other problems wit Win8 Beta. I can't install anything from the Store, can't sign-in to Music (Zune) or XBox Live.  I get the error "Sorry, sign-in isn't supported in your region at this time." Any other people here from Canada experiencing the same problem? My live account works fine with Zune on W7 and on my XBox. My location of my Windows Live Account is set to Canada as well as the location on my Slate7.

Please don't tell me Canada is left out from the most important online services.

Well, got it installed on the tablet - no problem at all.
Much improved from the Developer Preview.

The one issue I have is I can't connect it to my exchange server, even though I have my iPad, WP7 and Android Galaxy Tab connected.
I *think* it's because my exchange server requires an SSL connection and there's no checkbox for SSL in the Win 8 metro account stuff. Might be wrong there, but all the other settings are the same as the iPad/etc. Will keep digging and debugging...

@OrigamiCar:I got the same issue and then closed the Mail app and reopened it. There was a dialog at the top saying that it should make the connection more secure, clicked on Ok and it synched fine.

@PaoloM: Thanks for the heads up PaoloM - unfortunately I can't reproduce your fix. The mail app won't connect to the exchange server at all, thus it doesn't allow me to save the non working account. So, when I close and restart the Mail app, there's nothing there and I have to go through the same loop each time.

To be honest, I'm starting to think that there's something going on with the way our Exchange server is set up as I have vague recollections of our iOS users not being able to access and they had to specify some custom permissions/access. I'm going to speak to my Exchange guy on my team tomorrow and see if he knows what it may be.

Thanks for the suggestion though! Smiley
