No, it isn't April the first, would you buy one? I struggle to get Google maps to work accurately in cities when walking, so driverless cars are at least ten years away, if not twenty.

If it is not remote hackable like Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, and etc. And sign an agreement that Apple covers all damage (like killing people in an accident), and it is Hummer like armored car, I would totally be happy with AI car.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

@magicalclick: AI cars will have to be absolutely perfect before they'll be allowed on public streets. You don't want to kill another person, regardless of legal fault.

@spivonious:  "absolutely perfect" is not quite the standard that is needed.  "Much better than humans" should suffice.

My fear with self driving cars has always been the liability. Say self driving cars reduced traffic fatalities from 1.24 million per year (Wikipedia) to 124,000 per year. Awesome, right? The response would be to panic over how the robots are killing us, and we need to sue everyone, it's not about the money, won't someone please think of the children.

Except for the Apple Car drivers. Their dying thought will be to assume that they did something wrong and to thank Apple for the accident, life wasn't really an important feature anyway.

Actually it doesn't need to be perfect. No one cares until "many" people died or crashed or hacked. It has been in history all along.

And then "Look, squirrel!" will happen the next day and all the media will fixate on whatever was said by some Republican or the fact that Miley Cyrus turns out to be a guy.

X-Ray in shoe shop, Toyota keep going forward, Sony data breach, HeartBleed, pre-911 TSA, remote car hack, list goes on. No one cares until it blows over.
