    @jinx101: Well, people griped when transparency was added to Windows in the first place. People gotta have something to b!tch about or they're not happy.

    I don't remember people complaining about the transparency effect itself. I do recall people complaining they were ripped off when they bought a Windows Vista compatible PC and found that the graphics hardware couldn't support Aero at all or very well. There was a class action lawsuit around this issue to boot

    My take on the transparency effects is like an MVVM implementation -- there is no "law" that says it has to be done in 100% a specific way. Look at the taskbar in W8; it's transparent yet not a distraction to the overall desktop.

    As for battery life even the Windows Vista team says Aero only takes 1 - 4% of battery life. Not a big deal considering Aero has been running in the wild for 6 years now and you don't hear about people complaining that it kills batteries.

    I wonder when desktop backgrounds and other customization will be labeled "dated" and removed? It seems like it's all about changing the light-bulbs (removing customization and adding others) more than giving users what they want. I mean the whole "WP8/W8.1 has more background colors to choose from" shtick is just ridiculous marketing BS IMO.

    Why don't you get a Macbook, or run Linux? Maybe then you would be less angry all the time.

    Right about making broad unqualified statements in order to make your point sound plausible then yes. Smiley

    I don't know where you get the impression that I'm angry. If that makes you feel better about yourself then by all means you're welcome.

    Because that is the tone your writing conveys. If that is not your intent I would seriously reconsider your choice of words and writing style.

    @Sven Groot: and presumptiousness.

    So you're suggesting that this post has an "angry" tone? "My take", "I wonder", "It seems like" all seem pretty passive to me. It really seems more like anything critical said about Microsoft here is considered "angry", "negative", or "presumptuous". No doubt I've gone on some rants here as many others have but the post EvilD referred to was not one of them.

    Presumptuous? That's pretty funny considering the vague nature of kettch's remarks that I was responding to.

    Regardless I'm glad to know you must agree with my points as all you have added to the discussion is an attempt to deflect based on a mild personal attack.
