I am looking for a good home for my blog 'websurfaces.co.uk' which is currently with Wordpress.

(Blue Ink already suggested Orchard which looks good).

    Essentially my requirements are:

    1. A relatively cheap but reliable hosting service (that will accept my own domain name)

    2. A CMS/Blog Service that will support import from an XML content file exported from Wordpress.

    3. LiveWriter support.

    Thanks.

As far as I know, pretty much every cheap hosting service offers an "Install Wordpress" button in the administration Panel that sets you up with Wordpress in one click.

Yes. Wordpress is pretty much the best platform out there. Heck you can even deploy wordpress on azure with the click of a button.

I use discounts.net for all my hosting. They cost more than most of the cut rate hosting companies, but they are very reliable and secure.

Yes, but in my case they have shown themselves to be unprofessional as an organisation (ie By suspending a blog without any human confirmation that there is indeed an issue).

@Ian2: Maybe, but there's a difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com. One of them hosts, the other one develops. You have an issue with the one that hosts, but if you host your own, you only deal with the ones who develop. And are awesome.

@Ian2: logic point, is the one I am using. 5 bucks a month to host your own web matrix or WordPress site. or tumbler is quite popular among web designers and is free.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

if you bring your own domain, you may find blogger (google) a good fit. with some css tweaks you can un-brand it and make it look like anything you like. it's 100% free which is nice.

i think there are tools to import wordpress too.

The software is good, their hosted service not so much.

@blowdart:I agree but it is all branded the same so it should be important to them to get consistency of quality across the board.

    Their customer service sucks.

I just had a great experience of customer service just last week when Disney fell over themselves to make up for a botched screening of one of their new films.  The result is that I (and my kids) still feel great about Disney as a brand.  Needless to say that I don't feel good (any more) about the brand of "Wordpress".
