I wanted to make a simple blog. It forced me to sign up for something called Google+. It looks like a freaking mess of crap just went "splat" on my screen. All I wanted was a blog. Now I have to navigate threw some Google thing to get to the blog. I have not even looked into what this Google plus thing is but it looks dumb from the start. Just by the fact that they forced my hand in having to sign up for it if I wanted to be on blogger.

LOl...  Welcome to the land of the Google mothership !

you might want to look at other options as there are many blog systems out there ....

IMHO google wants us to buy in to them as the "one stop shop" for stuff and I also find it a bit much.

You are now required to create a Google+ account just to post a comment on YouTube.

Wordpress.org - The source code of the Wordpress blog which you can host yourself.

Wordpress.com - The website that hosts free Wordpress blogs.

    @Jason818:

Google+ is a social media platform, ie. Google's attempt to compete with Facebook. They've been increasingly aggressive promoting it, to the point where a Google account and a Google+ account is one and the same. It's quite annoying.

Aside from WordPress, tumblr is pretty good too.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

    This drive me nuts.

It's fine to require me to have a Google account to comment, but why the heck do I need to create my channel in order to comment?

In the end I don't comment there.

How does one spend the last two years on the internet and not know what Google+ is?

You probably don't want to know my reason why.

Yea, I have trouble believing the honesty of the OP. While I absolutely despise Google+ and other social networks, I do not pretend to have never heard of them. Anyone in the technology industry who reads more than one blog per month will have at least heard of Google+ in brief passing.

Probably, but let's be fair that the same could be said for MSFT and their ubiquitous live account.  You certainly don't have to have one to use their products, but it is annoying if you don't.

I wish the companies would standardize on some kind of federation technique so the could compete on the merits of their products, not the stickiness and annoyance of setting up another account.

I have heard of Google+. I did not know what it was for. Till now I had never had a google account. It is something I will probably not log into again.

I have no need for a social networking site. I do not use facebook ether.

Despite what you might think. I am proof that Google is not ubiquitous and does not have total mind control over all humans.  Big Smile

Google exist to make money by selling advertisements, AI is now so advanced, they need basic information from you so they can exercise their will on you, so expect companies to aggressively try to extract as much information from you, henceforth and forthwith.

Only someone with an Avatar such as yours would say Google is not ubiquitous, it is like a Metallica fan saying Michael Jackson is not ubiquitous and that he is crap (but he is, say some 9'ers Wink).

Personally, Microsoft have been the most ethical IT company thus far, their platform gives me hope, Apple are pure avarice, and Google seem to have managed to convince people that adverts are not annoying, "we are helping you!".

Ok, Ill give you that. Maybe they are ubiquitous to some extent. But they still have yet to control my mind. I hope.
