So Blizzard Entertainment is conducting stress test for D3 servers from Friday to Sunday. Anyone with Battle.net account can play without invitations. The char lvl is still capped at lvl 13 and only Act 1 is available.
I created a wizard this morning and see how the story goes. (Didn't see the live broadcast from other beta players before)
@cheong:I didn't have time to play, but I love me some Diablo...is it any good?
Just be able to review first half of Act1, so far it's not bad.
The game runs reasonably smooth on this stress test, but the burden to display card seems a bit high on my Radeon HD6850.
For the ranks available, the only comment I could make is that don't use Demon Hunter as starting character. The damage output is much smaller than the other builds. Need 5 shoots to kill a normal mob before changing weapon. I have to change it to use 2x 10+dmg hand crossbows (on level 5) to make it provide damage as good as other chars on lower levels. DH is also the only char I played that died during the whole OB season. On single player game it's in real dangerous situation for it to face more than 5 mobs at once. And unlike Diablo2, you can't employ merc until Q3 in Act1 (when you should be level 6-8).
i didnt quite understood if this release will be a general mmorpg or a rpg as it was till now
I played for a few hours then the server went down...made me not want to buy the game. Why? Playing a single player campaign, and I can't play because the server is down? Lame.
Unfortunately Simcity will be the same when it comes out in 2013, but that will have a lot more replay value than Diablo III I think...
I played it, it was alright but nothing amazing that would make me want to spend $50-60 for. The slam on your keyboard and mouse gameplay gets boring for me after awhile.
@Bass:That style of gameplay is probably what's going to be a plus and a minus. The people who liked 1 and 2 will probably like it if the gameplay is the same.
I hadn't tried 1 or 2 before trying this beta and well it felt very watered down/streamlined game play and graphics felt like if you had a generic/bland concept art and tweaked it a lot in attempt to feel like less generic. I was much more impressed by WoW when I trialed that couple years ago both art direction and gameplay wise.
It's possible this beta just didn't really give enough to fully appreciate what's so great about this game. I think it felt too easy all around. I guess it could be great for like first time gamer, so in business sénse the difficulty is ok but this beta should've had some harder options. I think there could be potential for fun but honestly it felt like you could play eyes closed and not have died (provided the monsters were properly 3d positioned in headphones - in FPS I used to fire rockets long before I saw the players coming by just listening carefully).
More depth and personal challenge into the gameplay and maybe enbseries for improving the graphics, then I might get interested. It's quite shocking how much value enbseries can add with the right shaders - Skyrim went from almost bland to one of the best looking games ever with just few shaders. (enbseries is just one of the directx hooks that add further fx-post process shaders, you need finely tuned shaders and palette maps to get the value out of it)
I played a little Diablo 2 when it came out and got incredibly bored with it very quickly.
@Harlequin:To be fair, I played the game yesterday (I mean Monday night in Hong Kong) and the game play is smooth. There was neither error nor wait required between each game. I think they've done a good job in reconfiguring their resources.
@spivonious:I played as summoner necro in D2 and never have to clickclickclickclick...
The skeleton will do the job.
For people complaining it's too easy, the first Act is supposed to be easy. You don't expect it to be too difficult when most players still cannot wear some serious EQs.
