Does Windows 7 really just work?

I recently got Pro tools 9 and it installed just fine on the latest OS X on Mac.

Since Pro Tools 9 can roam from machine to machine with the iLok USB key, I decided to install it on Windows as well so I could see which one performs better.

I didn't get any flack from iLok or anything. It just worked.

So I pop the iLok key in Windows, and it can't find the driver.

Then I install Pro Tools 9 and it finally installs the iLok driver. The iLok works and Pro tools launches. But then I get a cryptic message about finding hardware. Pro Tools 9 does not require Digidesign sound cards, so my card was fine for the requirements.

I find out that I actaully have to create a brand new Admin account and install protools there because I can't install it as a regular user in a user account even if I give it admin privileges in the install process (which is what I did on the Mac)

If after those steps your installation is still not going through:

    1. Uninstall Pro Tools.
    2. Create a new Administrator User Account
    3. Restart your computer & sign into the new Administrator Account you've just created.
    4. Install Pro Tools on this New Account.

    Windows 7, it's SOOSOOOOOOOOOOO easy.....

I bet Windows 8 will be even "easier" than a Mac

OMG, and I broke the XML parser on Channel9 again. That robust Microsoft web code base is bewildering me.

Read your post again and think about it. You will soon recognize that you actually complaining about the Windows implementation of ProTools 9 not about Windows.

Protools, like a lot of 'professional' software, isn't very well maintained. Same goes for a lot of CAD software.

@beerinbelgium: Contact the makers of the installer for Windows for Pro tools.

    They are to blame.

    Windows 7: yes, it does.

This forum software: not so much.

Since Apple launched their app store, all apps need to be installed under the admin account.

Mmm. Stylesheets failed to load after the last comment. Why is this site so bad?

I've actually been quite happy with Win7 64bit and professional audio software. As long as you have a good audio interface with well maintained ASIO drivers it's very good.

Your problem is with ProTools not keeping up with the quality of their Windows software.
    For example

There are still lots of VSTs out there that don't like being installed in C:\ProgramFiles(x86) so you need to install them outside of that protected folder in Win7. This isn't a Windows problem, it's a problem with the VSTs not keeping up to date with modern OSes.

This page has been broken for no less than 5 days and no one has lifted a finger to fix it.

Meanwhile hundreds of thousands of dollars in developer salaries, and benefits have been dispensed to the Channel9 team.

This is the living embodiment of the spirit of Microsoft.

@beerinbelgium: Why don't you go back and edit your original post? 99% of the people here know how to match opening HTML tags with closing tags and not jack up the rendering.

If I did that it would mean that the C9 team would not have to earn their pay by sanitizing input like the rest of the free world.

    I believe in tough love.

Clearly, your post isn't worth one nanosecond of their effort to fix. I concur.

One could mistake you for a smart person if you weren't so presumptuous.

OTOH, nobody ever makes that mistake with respect to you, and that's not being presumptuous.

Clearly, having my post render properly was worth the effort. Your original post always rendered correctly. It just jacked up everything underneath.
