IIRC, the original Explorer tile from Developer and Consumer Previews opened up an Explorer window in the "Libraries" folder, which is useless to me anyway.

While playing around with Win 8, I found that you can right-click on any folder, including network shares, and pin them to the Start Menu.

In Windows 7, you can only "Create shortcut", which puts the shortcut on your desktop.

If you wanted the equivalent of "Pin to Start Menu" in Windows 7, you'd have to:

    1. Right-click | Create shortcut
    2. Navigated to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs (assuming that you even have "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" enabled in your folder options, that is)
    3. Drag the shortcut created in step 1 into the Explorer window in step 2.

Sorry, whiners, Windows 8 wins this one hands down. Smiley

    Windows 7:

    1. Drag and drop folder to start menu button or taskbar
    2. There is no two.
