I have been using chrome for a long time and it works perfectly fine until yesterday when I opened a new tab it brought up something called babylon search.
Now I wan't to get rid of it and it seems like I'd have to do something more than a simple removal from the "Add/Remove program" option. It must have something to do with the registry, but I can not able to clean that.
The other day someone in yahoo answers suggest a removal guide, see here: babylon search
it requires to download an antivirus not heard before,
I just want to make sure everything won't go wrong again.
so is there a simpler way to remove this everyone hated toolbar?

    Please suggest!

Have you tried removing it via Chrome's usual addon dialogue (I'm afraid I'm not that familiar with Chrome so I couldn't tell you where to find that).

If that doesn't function I believe MBAM is often pretty good at hovering up crap.

In fact, from that link your provided:

*Remove Babylon search toolbar from Google Chrome

    • Remove Babylon search toolbar extensions from Google Chrome.
    • Click the Chrome menu button on the browser toolbar, select "Tools" and then click on "Extensions".
    • In the "Extensions" tab, remove (by clicking on the Recycle Bin) the "Proxy Tool, PortaldoSites Toolbar, Yontoo, BrowserProtect" and any other unknown extensions from Google Chrome.
    • Set Google Chrome default search engine from Babylon search toolbar to Google.
    • Click the Chrome menu button, then select "Settings" and click on "Manage search engines" in the Search section.
    • In the Search Engines dialog that appears, select "Google" and click the "Make Default" button that appears in the row.
    • Search for Babylon search toolbar in the Search Engines list, and click the X button that appears at the end of the row.
    • Change Google Chrome homepage from Babylon search toolbar to its default.Click the Chrome menu button, then select Settings and click on "One the New Tab page" in the "On Startup" section.

It it reactivates, you got a virus grade adware.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

I think security essentials or IE/ Windows should deal with this. I have seen it on machines in the enterprise, and it is very difficult for non-tech users to remove, and it keeps coming back. It is a virus as far as I am concerned.
