I just finished upgrading to Windows 8 Pro 64bit, keeping all my existing applications and settings intact and well ......

The installation was flawless, from begin to end!! All my Programs, drivers, connected devices and applications just work!

Took less than an hour to complete.

Congratulations Microsoft on a product well done!  Big Smile

    Anybody else upgrade yet?

I tried to download this morning from the UK site (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/productID.257641900) and after downloading the assistant and checking compatibility it then told me that Windows 8 was not available for download in my region!

Hoping this was just a hiccup (it was 6am), and that someone somewhere flips the correct switch during the day.

I had a similiar smooth upgrade path. Only two pieces of software had to be uninstalled first, and one of them was Security Essentials. Found a couple of anomolies, including all my Zune Podcast subscriptions being disabled but they were quick to re-enable.

One of the smoothest upgrades yet.

@Dr Herbie: Turn on Windows XP compatibility mode then re-launch the upgrade assistant.

Instead of just providing a web-site which sells you the CD Key/download link, they decided to screw around, so you have to run it on a valid upgradable computer or it gives you nonsense.

No clue if the key that is produced is "tied" to the computer you run it on. For example I want to buy upgrades to several copies on Windows which I don't have installed right now, and I don't want to have to install them just to "upgrade" it.

They should just ask you for the CD key of the upgradee during the process... So irritating.

@ManipUni: I was actually running it from an evaluation copy of Win8 RTM which I want to convert to a full, legal version.

I shall try it again this evening when I get home from work and report back.

@Dr Herbie: I figured. If you run it from any copy of W8 (RTM, Consumer Preview, whatever) you get that exact error. Turning on XP Compatibility mode for the upgrade advisor "fixes" it.

@ManipUni: Oh I see!  Sorry, mis-understood what you said.  I'll give it a go this evening, then. Cheers.

By the by, I just changed my Windows 8 Pro licence to the upgrade licence by running the command

    slmgr.vbs -ipk <New Product Key>

Without reinstalling. Worked a treat. But only if you have 8 Pro installed already (RTM).

For anyone who went to Build 2011, are they offering a release version of windows 8 for these tablets they handed out?    I want to upgrade before adding the tablet to my ATT plan.   Also would like to know if GPS is turned on with this tablet.
