MSDN Article on Hyperactive Live Tiles -- I couldn't agree more.

    I have actually removed a couple of these offenders already and shifted another couple over to the right (out of site on the default left-hand scroll position) because they annoyed me so much.

    Nice to see MSDN being critical.

    It's pleasure to read the "Don't get me started" column.

    I'd think the Live Tiles as a form of previous "Gadget" feature. If I don't need the status update, it'll be glad to have an option for us to make it plain old "shortcut without notification" instead.

    @Dr Herbie: Here's a feature you might not have noticed:

    Right click the tile on the start screen. Click "Turn live tile off" on the context menu at the bottom.

    @evildictaitor:Btw, I found that for some Apps on Windows Phone 8, when resized the tile to "1 square" size, the Live Tile animation will go away too.
