As MSDN subscriber, I received email that I can redeem promo code for free (1 year) Windows Store account at My Account page of MSDN website.

And by the end of the month, there will by another promotion code ready for free (1 year) Windows Phone Developer account.

So finally I can write and run my code on my Windows Phone without thinking about additional cost. Yay!

*Start planning to buy new phone.*

My MSDN account has a Windows Store code. I'm a UK developer but work for a big US corporate, so I've no idea what my country status is with regards to MSDN.

@Ian2:Correction, I have a promo code for phone but not the win 8 store.

@Ian2: I think not. The announcement is sent by MVS so it should be applicable to all subscribers.

@cheong:No offers showing for the Windows Store, maybe because I am already subscribed? (though this would make the behaviour different to Phone where I can see  a registration code)

    Too little too late.

I've already skipped buying a Windows Phone and started a project on native Windows rather than "Metro" (whatever it is called now) because Microsoft wants to charge $200/year for the "right" to develop.

@ManipUni: I'm kind of hoping they see a low take-up in the number of developers and learn that charging for the privilege of writing Metro apps is counter-productive in the long run.

@Dr Herbie: I hope so too. But frankly I think they are too obsessed with "well Apple can do it!"

@Ian2: Just login to MSDN website, then select "Access Benefits from My Account" on the right.
