Looks like a free beta has been made available today (while we are all waiting ..)

Looks like, as expected, there's a lot of emphasis on the game and online parts of it. That's fine with me, as long as they haven't abandoned the root of accurate, realistic simulation. Of course, as with all previous FS versions, I'm not expecting accurate system simulations from the built-in planes. For that we'll have to wait for 3rd parties like PMDG to pull off their extraordinary work. Assuming of course that MS Flight still supports add-ons.

Okay, so there's no sign of free flight whatsoever. It just takes you into tutorial missions with some kind of microlight seaplane. There doesn't appear to be any way to skip those tutorials either.

Also, I can find no indication that this is a beta. It doesn't say so on the site, nor in the game.

It appears to be based on the same basic engine as FSX. It looks slightly better, but more importantly, it appears to be much faster, so that's good. Beyond that, it doesn't feel like it has anything to do with FS. If there's no free flight in any location of the world, then it's not something I'm interested in.

Also, the mouse controls (I didn't feel like getting my yoke and rudder pedals out) are weird. The plane pitches in the direction of the mouse, even though for an aircraft it's much more natural to use inverted pitch controls.
