New 3D Maps Preview.

So I took at look at the high-def 3D maps app for Windows 8.1 and colour me impressed!

I have wondered at Assassin's Creed recreating Renaissance Italy's cities, and the thought that perhaps one day we would have our interactive maps like that.  This preview is pretty close to that.

Now MS needs to use these maps not only for navigation and data mapping, but for some sort of huge game environment ...

Anyone else taken a look?  When it has more cities added worldwide it's going to be pretty damn impressive.

I've been meaning to get a look at it, but I just can't get that app. If I click the "View in Store" button on the page (http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/bing-maps-preview/75ce2a6a-8a25-4916-83d0-19b8e7b60787) the store just opens on the default front page. Searching for "Bing maps preview" doesn't do anything either. I'm guessing it's just not available to all markets, which would be lame.

I just searched for 'maps' and it was in the list returned.

But yes, I wouldn't put it past them to only release into certain markets.

simply change the region settings in immersive control panel and you can get it Smiley

It's impressive and looking forward to see more coverage of cities

...now if it would also run on my Lumia... Wink

That worked, thanks. Extremely lame that you have to jump through hoops like this.

I compared to my bro's Apple 3D map, and Bing version has much better textures and probably more detailed mesh too. I hope MS adds more servers to it though, it takes a long time to fully load the ultra detailed textures, aka., wait even longer after it looks nice already.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

I can't get any 3D buildings. I've checked Seattle, New York and Washington DC, but all I get is 3D terrain and floating names, no buildings.

Try Valencia. I was looking for 3D cities for ten minutes too before I gave up and looked up the Vimeo video to see what city they were browsing there. I wonder how many there are.

Well, that answers that question: http://www.bing.com/dev/en-us/maps-preview-app

(This link was available after clicking on the search bar in the app)

Also: why can't we have a new Flight Simulator with this engine? Just add a few more cities, dynamic traffic, and dynamic scenery generation for the areas that are not covered.
