I've got this shiny new toy showing up tomorrow.

    Asus EP121

So now the question comes up. Does anybody have any touch/pen apps that they can't live without?

So far I've been looking at:

    • Microsoft touch pack
    • ArtRage
    • Mosaic RSS
    • Flickr
    • OneNote!
    • Nook and/or Kindle
    • Omnimo/Rainmeter

    @Dovella:That's the Asus EP121

Specs as seen on the Microsoft Store.

Probably the only weak point is the battery, but I'm an early adopter. Big Smile

Before they broke the touchscreen on my EEEPC T91, my kids liked chess games (Fritz & Chester) -- moving the pieces is more natural with touch.

Note : leaving children with a touchscreen under minimal supervision will result in the touchscreen getting hammered with household objects until it breaks. I should have known better Embarassed

How many seconds of battery life do you get on a full-charge? Big Smile

@W3bbo:Word around the tubes is that it should average about 3-3.5 hours of continuous usage. That's about the same as the X61 that I have. With better hardware and a smaller battery, that's decent. I can stretch the X61 to last all day if I put Windows into the power saving profile, so I'm not too worried.

EDIT: Am I the only one that has the formatting messed up on this page? It looks like after ESgarbi's post the stylesheet just goes away.

Looks nice! If I was still a college student I would definitely be considering a tablet like that.

Now that I'm not taking lots of notes, I really can't justify $1100 for it when a $300 laptop does just as well minus the touch screen.

The PDC Tablet came with some software called Corel Paint It Touch!

     - a nice free form art appliation.  At the PDC there was an artist using it with a stiff brush - he did a caricature of me which I think I was suppoosed to receive by email (sadly somthing went wrong and I never did).

@kettch: 4 hours is pretty poor for something you're meant to take around with you. My laptop gives me 9 hours' continuous battery life (granted, I'm using a 9-cell battery) even with wi-fi enabled, playing MP3s, and with the backlight at a readable setting. There have even been times where I've seen the power-meter tell me I've got 11 hours remaining.

I see the screenshot shows Aero is enabled. What kind of battery life do you get if you disable the glass effect, and what about 'aero basic'?

3.5 hours is still decent, my notebook only last 2.5 hours I think.

Anyway, I think the best app would be that MS research paint app. If you can get a hand on it and have a pressure based touch screen, it can paint just like a real brush.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

@W3bbo:I haven't gotten a chance to unbox it yet. So I haven't run it in the power saving profile. I think it's only got a 3 cell battery, but if the difference between balanced and power saver is anything like the performance of my X61, I'm not worried.

I've been looking at something like this anyway. I can kill off my phone in half a day, so portable juice is always welcome.

bummer.  2.55 lbs.  the iPad is 1.6 lbs.  It was nice to have a brief hope of some alternative offering.

Apparently I'm in-line to receive a free iPad 2 from a client (as they're paying certain expenses related to the current project) and the speculation is that the new iPad will be even lighter and with a longer battery life (but no 2048px display though).

...and we're due to see it on the 9th of February with a possible retail availability by the 13th.

I'm getting it too, it's really annoying to figure out who said who and who is quoting who this way.

Will do, but it seems the iPad 2 announcement and launch dates have been pushed back into March.

...not that I'm in any kind of hurry.

So far I'm getting the impression that the battery life estimates might be a little conservative. It will probably take a couple of weeks before I get an idea of what my average usage will be. It lasts a long time on on standby.

I'm really loving this thing. I'm going to have to dig around and see if it uses EFI intead of BIOS. The boot consists of a flicker of the screen, a couple seconds of black and the Windows startup screen. Overally it's pretty snappy. I'm a happy camper.
