@spivonious:Well to be specific I was looking for 802.11a/n/g availability  so you can use in a hotspot bypassing the carrier 3G/4G etc.

Yes, that's what wifi is. Every smartphone I've looked at in the past year has it.

TomboRombo: Does the Focus S come with wifi.

Every phone made today comes with WiFi. Even phones costing under £150 come with WiFi. If it is a Smartphone with a touchscreen then there is a 99.99% certainty it comes with WiFi.

@blowdart: Ah well, if you're going to be an international jet-setter then you're going to have to put up with this kind of thing. Smiley

    Nope Sad

Dammit. That almost rules out WP7 for me. I'm not going to use two messenger accounts.

Does the Focus S come with wifi.   I cannot tell by reading the specs.   The old Focus looks like it had wifi but the new S looks like it does NOT.    Also, is there NFC on the device?

    Thanks,

    There's wifi, there's no NFC

@blowdart: It has a front-facing camera, which is cool. Smiley It's quite a nice piece of hardware. On my list for upgrade (I have the first gen focus, which has done me well).

Send your feedback to the WP7 people.

It's a big Live ID issue really, but they seem to largely ignore it no matter how many times it's brought up. The only concession ever was the "linked accounts" thing, which basically just meant you could quickly switch between hotmail accounts and not much else.

Back in the day I had one Live ID account associated with Xbox Live, one I used for Messenger (and MSDN forums + C9) that no longer had a valid email name but that I had accidently once logged into xbox.com as and managed to associate as a different Xbox Live account and a work one purely for accessing the department's MSDNAA account.

Trying to refactor the first two into a single Live ID so that I could get stuff on my WP7 phone to work as I wanted but without losing associated information and end up with something people wouldn't try to send email to was a nightmare. I'm only greatful I didn't have the 'location' problem too as that's clearly going to add to the frustration.

No kidding. They remain completely silent on the topic too. I desperately need to merge these two accounts for roughly half a decade now, but from the looks of it they're never going to bother providing for that. Linked accounts was nonsense to begin with.

I've also suffered from the inability to merge Live Ids, hence why my username has that backtick at the end ...

There needs to be a way to package up our online selves into an ID object that we can tote around from work to play to whereever and still be semi-anonymous.  Instead of logging in, I should be able to point the login query towards the appropriate identity service that will tell the site who I am.

That way, I can map any number of live ID, facebook, linked in, etc. accounts to 'me.online' and not have to worry about it.  I can map my work logins, too, and if I'm ever 'let go', then they can invalidate that connection and know that I won't have access.

How does this help?  I should be able to switch the phone from 'work mode' to  'home mode' by changing the links it uses to gain access to everything in the cloud.

This is a really good idea (<-- not sarcasm, I know, it's hard to tell with me)

@blowdart: How is the phone working out for you? I've taken a look at the Focus S in the Microsoft Store but it seems plasticy compaired to the first Focus.

I have a rubber skin on it anyway, so I don't feel the actual phone. The flash is impressive.
