A Core i5 might be the first processor to overcome the Android lagginess. Wink

And being a Haswell, Win8 should have better battery run-time than the current Surface-Pro

Not to mention the 13.3" 3200x1800 display

The high-DPI of all these laptops/tablets for Windows 8.1 has me hopeful for some significant changes to how Windows scales, but I doubt it will be to the extent I want with respect to the desktop - that would require high-DPI 2D assets as Apple provided with OSX (super-high res icons and controls existed in previous OSX versions for years and could be uncovered by poking around).  MS doesn't seem too concerned with how the desktop appears these days.

I think the desktop will scale better - however I doubt it will look that good.

What I really want to see is these high-DPI screens start to migrate to desktop displays where they're truly useful.  Quad-HD on a 27" display would be fantastic for many scenarios (VM's, remote control of other PC's), and hell eventually quad-HD gaming.  Nvidia and AMD would love an excuse to push high-end GPU's again instead of running console ports at 120fps at 1080p I would think.

ASUS recently announced a 31.5-inch 4K monitor with a 140 PPI density, which is only slightly better than the 17" 1920 x 1080 display on my primary laptop. If I owned this 4K monitor, I wouldn't even bother scaling it. I'd rather have it look like I fused together 4 laptop displays.

I have to admit that this is a very clever implementation of Android running in Windows. The switch back and forth between Android and Windows is fast and seamless.

I don't understand why Samsung gets so much vitriol for their software offerings, especially on the Android platform. I have a Samsung tablet onto which I did a clean Windows 8 installation, yet I still chose to install many of Samsung's utility software. Their software updater tool is convenient and works well.

If only this was an 7-8 inch device, it would have been perfect for replacing my Nexus 7.

According to Anandtech, Android runs in a VM on Win8, so I guess it's just a case of creating a tile from each Android app, to start it in a new VM.

Hopefully this is a final wake-up call to Julie Larson-Green and the Windows engineering team, windows should run on anything, and age old cynicism that Android is a passing fad must be vanquished.

Look at this camera running Android

With Windows, is that Windows Mobile, Windows Phone, Windows CE or Windows Embedded?

Is anyone doing their main programming on these (well not these) high resolution 13" laptops?  I really wished Samsung had refreshed their 15" Series 9 (Ativ 9) line.

@vesuvius: If this turns out to be true then there is a good chance that everything "Windows" will move closer together in the future.

For all the hate that it's receiving, I'm sure you can't have missed the fact that all of those are rapidly all converging towards a single Windows platform.
