SkyDrive Office idea.

    With all those debates on the other thread, I sudden have an idea I hope SkyDrive Office would do.

    It is basically "Shared Protected" mode. Users can collaborate in one doc, but, they are protected from each other. I am going to explain this in HTML way.

    All the member of the doc can "add/insert" a DIV to the root document container. You can write whatever you like in your own DIVs. And you can remove your DIVs. And you can move your own DIVs around in the root container.

    But, you can not do anything to another person's DIV. You can however, add comment to another person's DIV.

    Finally the admin has the full right. And he/she can finalize the document and put it back to private.

    So, your content is protected while the document is shared and editable by many peers. It allows collaboration in a protected environment. This eliminate the case when an ex-gf taking revenge on you and remove everything you and your teammates has worked on.

    ======

    I hope this idea can be considered.

    Add: It is just a blog/forum in Office (ofc more advanced and flexible). So you know how it works. If you see your post is commenting something you didn't write, you know your password has being compromised.

    How would previously assigned divs be reassigned to another person who should have edit rights?

    How granular would the reassignment be?  Would the admin have to reassign each div?  Would the admin have the ability to assign certain divs but not others?

    What if 2 persons need to work on the same div, just not at the same time?

    I think I'd rather have something like Track Changes, only updating live with multiple editing possible. Being restricted to only editing the bits you originally entered would seem rather too limited for most purposes. Google Wave(?) was kind of on the right lines, but the implementation was rather off the mark.

    1) I suppose the DIV owner and the admin can reassign the DIV.

    2) Admin can say, filter user="userA" and there will be checkbox on each DIV. And Admin can selectAll or check whatever DIVs he likes, and say, reassign selections. If Admin didn't filter user, Admin can also select whatever DIVs he likes (owned by different users), and transfer the DIV ownership.

    3) If you really want multiple users changing each other's contribution, use traditional share mode.
