    well, its not 'extra 18 gig', it is just taking back what I used to have before, oh they just shrinked the size with an 'upgrade' ? and it requires immediate action for me to take it back ? in a limited time ? WTF ?

    Yeah, you could look at it that way, I guess. Or you could look at the fact that we have 25GB of free online storage, regardless of what we had before.

    This is just pathetic.

    You can track Skydrive into doing it with Symbolic Links. Very manual though

    Or you can use software I wrote, with a video here http://youtu.be/UiNWQV8VVMk.

    this is how to solve this issue well (and I integrate with Android and iOS), but this application suite is aimed at the non-power user which Sven  isn't

    Google have just got in on the plan http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17824417 with rumors that Facebook could buy dropbox

    @Sven Groot:

    Mesh is about to be discontinued if I remember correctly.

    To  tc, thanks for the info, almost lost my GBs.

    How about the synching of Favorites, Outlook signature, etc? Currently they are part of Live Mesh. Are they going to be included in Office 15 and IE10 then?

    Otherwise a combination os SkyDrive and Libraries are working very well for me Smiley

    Can't figure out how to grant permissions on a folder using the windows app. Easy enough through the web interface ... am i missing something?

    I think you need to do it from the Web interface, otherwise you will share the local folder...

    Did you try the Share charm?  I haven't tried yet, so just a guess.

    Favourites comes back as part of Win8's roaming to the cloud. Don't know about Outlook signatures though.

    And for people who don't use Win8?

    So how do we sync stuff between PCs but not to SkyDrive? How do we sync separate folders like VS's code snippets? That's what I'm using Mesh for (and FolderShare before it).

    Honestly, MS, pick a strategy and stick with it! Stop acting like a 3 year old with ADD!

    It can't (officially) be done:

    Power users can have fun with the SkyDrive folder too

    In Windows Live Mesh, which some of you have come to rely on, we allowed arbitrary folders to be synchronized. Our experience has been that this introduced too many unresolvable complexities across different PCs, with the path on one PC synchronizing to entirely different paths on other PCs and the cloud. In order to maintain our goal of "it just works," we designed SkyDrive to be the same everywhere, and to work well with libraries in Windows.

    If you'd like your SkyDrive folders to feel less like separate folders, you can add your SkyDrive Documents and Pictures folders to your Documents and Pictures Libraries in Windows 8 and Windows 7.

    Alternatively, you could change the target location for special folders like Documents or Pictures (or others) to folders in your SkyDrive, basically treating your SkyDrive as your primary drive (right-click the Documents folder, click Properties, and then Location). You can also customize the default root of the synchronized folder (to use a different drive, for example), and this option is available during setup of the SkyDrive app.

    So, as you can see, the simple and straightforward model of having a single folder for your SkyDrive still leaves lots of creative options for personalization.

     EDIT: It looks like Microsoft's official advice, for the time being, is to run the two together. There's no telling when they'll drop support though. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/skydrive/mesh-users?SignedIn=1

    The SkyDrive folder (single) is by default at %userprofile%\SkyDrive #, but can be set to another location via the UI.

     Anyone have any idea how to do this? I haven't found the option yet and would rather like to.

    Okay, so anyone know a good non-MS sync solution? I want to be able to sync PC-to-PC without cloud in the middle.

    Honestly, this tendency of MS to just drop perfectly fine technologies is getting ridiculous.

    You can change it during install, not after.

    Nope. It seems the only way to do it is to choose "Unlink Skydrive" from the settings, and then reconfigure it. You get the option during the configuration wizard.

    @Sven Groot:

    I must have missed that - I don't recall getting any options during the install process. I should look more carefully before clicking through install screens Tongue Out
