Surface Pro 2 vs Surface 2 vs Lumia 25xx vs others.

Lumia 25xx is announced. What do you think? I think it is more attractive than Surface 2, except the extra bucks on LTE. Compare to Pro 2, Lumia does not run VS. But, I like the camera, my fav Cyan Matte finish.

I am thinking about getting Win8 Tablet one of these days. There are models out there, which one you prefer? Windows 8 only, I don't care about other OS.

Leaving WM on 5/2018 if no apps, no dedicated billboards where I drive, no Store name.

I'm writing on the Surface Pro 2 256GB which arrived yesterday. After a full initial charge I detached the power cable and installed Office, Visual Studio and other things, and still was able to get around 6 hours when reaching the 10% battery mark. I'm impressed.

So battery life is not a serious argument anymore, just the form factor if you're able to work on it. The type cover didn't arrive yet, so I'm writing on the screen keyboard and surprisingly it doesn't slow me down that much 😉

Just try them out in the shop, no idea when the Nokia comes out though.

From what I've seen so far... Lumia 2520 has an IPS screen which apparently is actually usable outside, and has a more practical keyboard/stand design - i.e. you can actually use it on your lap, add provides 2 full-size USB ports.

Hmm, first System Firmware Update for the Surface Pro 2 on Windows Update...

@PeterF: Due to the nature of the update process, that update has probably been in the pipeline for a while now. Just because the OS image went gold doesn't mean that the team stopped working.

I know, but strange timing, if they had been slightly faster they could have released it yesterday to save another reboot Wink

@PeterF: Indeed. I hope they make another push to reduce the number of reboots required.

I've gotten a Windows Update on my Windows 8/8.1 machines nearly every day for the past several weeks. Most have been updates to Windows Defender, but other types of updates are showing up pretty regularly as well.

You might want to also take a look at the Dell Venue Pro 11 as it starts at $499, includes active digitizer layer and is full HD like the Surface & Lumia tablets.

The 1520 Phablet and a desktop is all anyone needs.  What do you do on a tablet that you can't do on a Phablet?  Don't tell me you're running VS on a tablet.

If the 1520 had mouse support, you'd be able to RDP into a desktop in full 1920 x 1080 resolution and run VS remotely. Smiley

Is there not a way to hook up a mouse?  Never tried.

I just don't know how you can really work with a screen that small.  Even if it's 1920x1080, can you do work with VS on a 10in screen?  Maybe you can, just don't think my eyes could see that small stuff.

As for traveling, get a 13-15in laptop to do work.  Well I guess a 13in Yoga 2 would be good and is almost considered a tablet.  But for bringing a 10in surface, I'd rather use a phablet and run RDP if I really had to do something.

Well I did you the surface for doing a handspin in one of my videos that Sinofsky re-tweeted.  I guess if you're traveling you could bring it to the clubs to do that.

If you're bringing a tablet to a club I think that indicates other problems. Problems devices can't solve.

Yeah, VS on airplane is one of my big reasons I want to buy a portable PC. Ofc I cannot compete with dual monitor VS, but, can't complain on the plane.
