More rumors surfacing about a new smart watch from MS.

    IMO surely a forgone conclusion?

    Love the graphic!

Still not the most useless watch I've ever seen. Wink

Watches seem to be the big thing right now, at least in the rumor mill. But I'm skeptical. People have tried before, heck, Microsoft had SPOT, but it's always failed. Like the article said, the closest we've come to success so far is the Pebble, and that was purely on speculation. Those that have received a Pebble don't seem all that impressed. If someone actually does create a useful smart watch, they'll have the next iPhone product, but I'm just not seeing it happen, quite frankly.

Seems like the more we move "ahead", we move "back"!  When did Dick Tracey introduce the 2-way wrist radio?

@Ian2:Well at least this one tells you the time!  And it is always accurate (just not very helpful)!

When I first heard of the whole iWatch thing I thought it was dumb and couldn't imagine people using them. I'm usually 100% wrong on this sort of thing, so I'm guessing smart watches are going to be all the rage. I wonder how this'll play out.

I'd rather like a watch which had my live tiles mirrored to it. And appointments.

Nothing more. I don't want to read emails, or reddit, just the time, appointments, and maybe the weather, plus unread emails to prompt me to go to my phone to check them.

When I think about it I would like it to be completely dumb and just reflect information from the live tiles I have specially selected on my phone.  By default it shows a standard watch face (alarms interrupt with messages) any other time if I touch the watch face it shows me live tiles (a new one every touch)

Maybe there is also some room for simple gestures to show me other location aware information?

Add Nike Sports Watch type functionality and I'd be interested.

I'd imagine something like one fullscreen tile, and then swiping to cycle through roughly seven of them? Maybe some limited interactivity where you can tap it to perform a default action like read an email, like a facebook status, stop an alarm, that sort of thing?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't stand having something like a watch strapped around my wrist. My phone supplies all the functionality that any smart watch could possibly bring to the table.

I haven't worn a watch for over a decade, even years before I had a cellphone. I can't see myself wearing one now... although I also hated having to carry a phone around for the first couple of months, so who knows.

The one major caveat I see with this is battery life. I find smartphone battery life barely tolerable as it is. A watch I'd have to recharge every day/every other day is simply unacceptable.

    I haven't worn a watch since the mid-90s.

The problem I see with it is that watches are part function and part jewelry. People like the mechanical sophistication of a traditional watch, and there is something about that I doubt electronics can successfully substitute.

Weren't iPhones part function and part jewelry when they first came out?

Interesting. What phone to you have? I can go all day with my 920, get home and still have half a charge on my battery.

@Jim Young: Are you using it, though?

Besides, even if a charge lasted two days with moderate use, I find that incredibly poor. Why isn't this technology progressing?
