The people "in charge" of Windows really should watch this video

This video is purposely funny but the frustration isn't. It's real and someone at MS needs to show that they're actually listening to people who know what they're talking about who aren't in the Microsoft bubble.

I'm not sure how the reviewer reconciles these two statements:

00:17: "The premise [of the review] is that I'd spend days working with the operating system"

21:17: "[all of these problems] were in the first thirty freaking minutes. I mean, I literally couldn't take it anymore.".

What's contradictory about the two statements?  "I'd" is short for "I would." At 21:17, the reviewer's statement indicates that he didn't have to spend days, as planned, before running into the problems referred to.

"I'd planned to fly into orbit, stay a few days, conduct an experiment, then land."

"73 seconds in, my ship exploded."

    Nothing to reconcile.

He starts off with the premise that he needs to do a long test, using Windows8 as his sole machine in order to give it a fair review.

He then later says that he gave up after 30 minutes.

Based on his previous assertion, that means he didn't give it a fair review.

It feels more like a "I was going to give Windows8 a fair review, but then I realized I'd get more hits on my blog if I just did a funny YouTube video saying that it sucked, and I can do that without even bothering to properly try it."

    *snip*

He starts off with the premise that he needs to do a long test, using Windows8 as his sole machine in order to give it a fair review.

He obviously spent a long time trying to get Windows 8 just to the point where he could use it day to day.

I think you are missing the point of the whole video: He wanted to get Win8 to a point where he could use it day-to-day for a month, but encountered so many issues that he never got to that point.

While he is very hyped in the video, he makes some very sound points, especially with control, conveyance, continuity, and context. Windows 8 is a big step backwards in each of these four areas for desktop and laptop users, which represents the vast majority of the world.

@evildictaitor:I realize he didn't end up doing what he set out to do but the video is about how he never even got started because everything was against him. I was so hard just to do basic things that he gave up and if he has that much trouble then what hope does the average user have?

It would be interesting if he made another video now that's he's learned more about Win8 and probably has been told by other people how to close ModernUI apps etc.

It still doesn't mean that his point about the usability of Win8 on a laptop/desktop aren't valid though. I feel just like he does when it comes to that subject.

Already posted before. The guy's problems could have been solved if he had watched the instruction videos after install.

@dentaku: I guarantee you everyone working on Windows has already seen that video and it's probably been debated ad nauseum already within the Windows team.

If Sinofsky is still in MS, he can write another long blog about psychology, UX studies, heat map, statistical data, and he is always smarter than the dumb reviewers. while I think he over exaggerated it, because my less educated friend hasn't complained much, I think many people still share the same frustrations. and no, definitely not the intro video, because my dad would be frustrated the computer stuck at some black intro screen and refused to read English. He often refused to read Chinese too. I just hope they can make a version that I don't have to babysit for two months everyday. [WP8]

@ZippyV:Someone said that if you need a menu to show you now to perform usual tasks, you're designing it wrong.

If that functionality is to be perform anything more frequent than daily, I'd sincerely hope that it to be designed to be done even without reading any reference.
