this thread is SOOOO CLOSE to hitting the magical number of 13 pages. That would be cheevos all around.

    Come on folks!

Technically, just getting to the 13th page means that we merely completed filling up 12 pages. I think that recognition of improper inclusive counting warrants a cheevo.

Edit: And an extra cheevo for MaryUK for completing the said 12th page.

@cbae: Why are we using a page index that starts with 1?

the universe keeps feeding me reasons to link to this thread. someone on Twitter just asked me if Office 2013 had any Xbox LIVE integration...

And it should.  There are so many reasons to link Xbox Live with Office 2013.  Press a button, and awesome excel sheet with all you games, cheevos, dates, completion..., your friends list, same thing.  Word documents, insert game details, gamercard pics...  You could make your document letterhead default with your xbox live gamercard with current cheevos.   Heck, I could make some great utilities, but I got denied for the API for xbox live when I applied for it.

Oh and i can't pop the VS cheevos cus now it gets stuck on Loading... for me.  I could try to re-install it, but every time I install something, my registry codes get Sinofsky-ed with this bug that's been around since august. http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/760967

Yes, I am aware of those, but I'm not going to dignify that with a response.

@GoddersUK: I have this strange compulsion to start including random standalone achievements into software I write.

All the time wasted trying to get your Visual Studio cheevos recognised could have been spent achieving more cheevos elsewhere. I don't think you're taking cheevos achieving seriously enough?

what I'm wanting is a twitter hashtag cheevos aggregator and crowdsourced approval. If I declared that I unlocked the 'shut my laptop cable in the door as I walk out of the room without unplugging it first' cheevo on twitter this morning, couldn't there be a way for a group of my peers to approve that as a real cheevo and add it to my gamertag and show me who else has also managed this feat? Surely this is the way cheevos will scale to real life?

Peer-to-peer cheevos is the next big thing. Who needs some stupid central authority telling me what is and isn't a cheevo?

@mootinator: Great idea! 100,000 Cheevos for you.

Well I think Microsoft has done a pretty good job, and True Achievements website has done a good job sorting and ranking the data (although they have a monopoly on the data).  I don't want to promote TA, but if you've never seen their website, you should check out all the various rankings and statistics they offer to check your cheevos.

Microsoft has the authority because they have the best online gaming ecosystem.  Xbox 360 is the dominant console and had cheevos way before sony had trophies or whatever.  Things could change, but for now and years back Xbox360 has been very dominant.

I guess you could sue them like europe did so Internet Explorer isn't installed by default, saying you should be able to pick different gamerscore options....well let me just stop that thought, cus it's going no where.

Point is, until there is some dominant gaming system that won't port an equal game over to microsoft's console or PC, MS will be the central authority.  I guess if that did happen, I'd tell people, 'In 2012, I had 100k cheevos"

I think you're talking about coming up with a life points achievements, sort of how I did a self worth calculator.  The problem is verifying all those achievements, it's not realistic.

If you need a calculator to work out your own self worth, you have esteem issues that only a qualified therapist is going to be able to solve.

You know, the idea of assigning "life points" to anything we did was something my brother and I did back when we were kids, in the 80s and early 90s!

I think Xbox Live owes us some royalties.
