Visual Studio is getting out of control

Installed VS2013 onto a fresh installation of Win8.1:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0

Disclaimer: I also installed SQL Server 2012 Express. It's possible SQL Server Management Studio is using the VS10 IDE.

Maybe it has something to do with it being backwards compat with old solution files?

Yes that is the case. SQL Server Data Tools and the SSIS designer use VS 2010.

Separate folder structure permits side-by-side loading of different versions of VS.

Makes it a lot easier to uninstall them.

@AdamSpeight2008: I don't have an issue with the folder structure. I have an issue with VS2013 needing to install the VS2012 (and possibly VS2010) IDE in addition to the VS2013 IDE.

If you install VS2012, then VS2013 which has 2012 dependencies, then uninstall 2013 does 2012 still work?

Just thinking about it makes my head hurt. It seems like a better idea to do share nothing installs, and let the OS manage data deduplication. It wouldn't surprise me if there will be some tech transfer from Server to Desktop to Phone.

@JoshRoss: It should work, VS is about 200 smaller packages all chained together and ref counted, so it should still function.

@PerfectPhase: Thanks for the push to find this.
