What if there were a Zune app developed for iPod/iPhone?

Pretty sure it would be rejected by Apple.

sure but if MS was to embrace the jailbreak community... I believe that jailbreaking was deemed legal not too long ago...

Microsoft and Apple are both in a state of MAD because they both hold patents that the other violates, and they have a gentleman's agreement that they won't tread on each others' toes lest some lawsuits start getting filed.

Microsoft releasing a Zune app for the iPhone does nothing to help Microsoft because consumers are still buying Apple's hardware, so they might as well just use iTunes.

Microsoft doesn't need a Zune app for the iPod/iPhone, they just need Apple to support DRM-encumbered WMA/WMV file formats, but seeming as the trend is heading towards DRM-free media (and rental/subscription is going nowhere...) Microsoft doesn't really have anything to gain in the long-term.

How would a zune app be different than something like pandora?

Not so sure. Apple already allows competing music and book services on the iPod/iPhone. Remember, everything Apple does is to sell more hardware, and a Zune app would just be another service to hook into.
