Win Phone 8.1 beef.

    Here is the updated beef.

    1) remove games from game list, WP7 style.
    2) still needing Mango Map for people still prefer it over HERE. Also the MAPS 3D/2D toggle shouldn't auto press the other CenterMe button.
    3) don't play video inside IE. Some video controls are missing because the site dev did not provide it.
    4) close IE in Back Hold and reopen IE recompute the old cached data. Slow and outdated. Prefer not to recompute it, like the old days.
    5) XboxMusic and XboxGame keeps spending time to search the music or the games, very slow.

    Resolved:
    1) FM radio moved to dedicated app.
    2) background tasks moved to battery sense.
    3) C9 user agent bug is fixed.

    Nice updates:
    1) Calendar monthly view finally has visible colored event indicator. Pressing the day will expend month grid without switching page. Rival and better than iOS.
    2) Cortana = yay.
    3) Notification center = yay.
    4) swipe down to close app in Back Hold list = yay.
    5) multi volume control = yay, although still missing Volume Center.
    6) voice mail volume, fixed. Call volumn and speaker call volume.
    7) swipy = yay.
    8) battery sense and data sense = yay.
    9) correct Cortana Search Hold, not Home hold = yay.
    10) some places feels faster and some feel slower, but it is fine.
    11) allow the pesky "," key to be hidden because it is easy to press it, instead of space bar = yay.
    12) Skype integration = yay.
    13) group OneDrive and Facebook photos = pretty nice.
    14) XboxMusic is annoying, but, I found a way to disable the slow XboxMusic from its settings. So, it is virtually the same as pre8.1.
    15) fav sync = yay.
    16) wireless display = yay.

All in all, Cortana, Notification Center, Monthly View, and Swipy are biggest improvement so far. I would say, aside form Google intentionally blocking official YouTube app (just get 3rd party one). And missing iPhone like fingerprint button. WP8.1 is very close to iPhone and Android. Great job to the WP team. Now, fix the game list!

This is just in, use Music Hub Tile to get back the real music player for the swipe crowd and speed crowd. Don't settle for app, get the real music player back. It is basically the same as Maps Tile before MS fixed the BUG.

Broken C9 text editor on WP8.1 reported to feedback forum. Yes, broken AGAIN and will be broken again for all future IEs if the logic is not corrected to account for unknown browsers. Same old failed browser logic, just they managed to have the same bug on browser independent Mobile mode.

Dislike how it handles IE tabs. I used to be able to close IE using Back List. But the tab session was still open. For example, after closing the IE on this site, and open the IE again. I can see the same page I was reading and I can go to other page without the slow login process. But now, I have to wait for the long login process again if I close the IE using Back List. I guess some people want it to be really closed. But, that's a lot of hazel for me..

@magicalclick:I think we used to "long press" the back button and kill the task now. I like it that way more than pressing back.

Btw, I'd like the IE to use "Back" button in history more than what it's doing now, hope that it can somehow override the default action. (I see UC brower doing this, so it could be done if they want)

Btw, the first thing after update that I like is that, you can swipe down from the top of screen to show the button that enable/disable screen rotation (along with other buttons that controls Wifi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode and All Settings). That's handy when I used my reader Apps.

Some good news for Traditional Chinese users, WP8.1 finally have Quick input method.

SMS + Call Blocker still won't load, don't know if it'll get fixed after Extras + Info update.

Still  exploring the options offered in settings.

I hate the Xbox music player. You can't swipe to skip tracks anymore. That was one of the best features WP had going for it. It was great for skipping tracks while driving because you didn't have to press tiny buttons. Microsoft just made using a WP while driving more dangerous. Good job.

That's what I meant, Back List, because it is shown as a List. And I close the app by pressing the X..

    @cbae:

you are right. It is Xbox Music. That explained the missing FM radio and slow loading. Another giant step back from WP7. Just found an ugly app for FM radio. It works and it is there, so, it is 5 stars. :)

I seem to have a new FM Radio app on my HTC 8x since the 8.1 update.

You shouldn't be using your phone while driving anyway. What about voice control?

Swiping to skip tracks on the old music player took as much attention away from the road as turning the volume knob on the car radio or adjusting the A/C fan.

@cbae: I made a suggestion on User Voice some time ago related to this, and I really wish they'd implement it. http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/2285775-driving-car-mode

We have driving mode. Apps should be able to detect when the phone is in driving mode so that they can provide simpler, safer, interfaces. (Yes, you're correct, an appropriate interface is no less distracting or dangerous than turning on your radio, adjusting the temperature, turning on your wipers, etc. So @spivonious is off base here.) Even the start screen should be customizable when in driving mode. For Xbox music all of the interface for selecting songs could be removed, forcing you to use voice control, which is safer. The display would just be the cover art with swipe gestures for pause/play and next/previous tracks. Audible has a nice "button free" interface (well, nice other than it's ugly) that would work great for its Driving Mode Display.

Like I said in my User Voice response, we shouldn't be limited to just Driving Mode either. Allow other modes to be defined as well, so we can limit the apps available, change the volume settings, turn on auto replies, etc. for each mode. Then we could have a Work mode, a Church mode, a Movie mode, etc. You should be able to manually switch to any mode via the new Action Center, and you should be able to define events (time of day, logging on to specific WiFi or Bluetooth devices, tapping certain NFC tags, etc.) that will automatically switch you to a specified mode. This sort of personalization would put WP ahead of other platforms (which are currently ahead because they can already do a good portion of this).

Those things can be distracting too.  Studies (for example this one) suggest that such influences can cause crashes more often than phone use, particularly calling (but perhaps not more than texting).  In any case, it isn't fair to assume that operating equipment inside your vehicle is safe.

    @cbae:

I just tried it. Hold Cortana and say Play Next Song. The Play Previous Song is not so great because the music player will just restart the song. By the time you say the command again, it is too late.
